It was great having everyone together for our strategic planning meeting at Talem IP Law LLP. With a team that varies between in person, hybrid, and fully remote, it is energizing to have everyone together and see the synergy and collaboration in person. We also ventured out for an in person Italian cooking class at The Fat Tuscan Cooking School where we got to hone our pasta making skills. We are beyond excited for all the things we have planned for 2026!

Technology transfer professionals are closely watching these developments, and the Duke University Office for Translation & Commercialization (OTC) is no exception. OTC recently hosted an internal roundtable with Sarah Knight and Sean Combs from Talem IP, an external IP law firm partner, to hash out some current considerations of AI and patentability.

Intellectual property professionals from Duke OTC and Talem IP recently shared best practices around artificial intelligence and patenting.

We are pleased to announce that Michele Fil has joined Talem IP as a Registered Patent Agent! She brings over a decade of experience covering gas turbine technology, repair processes, high temperature materials, and sustainable energy technologies including wind, solar, and energy storage. Prior to becoming a patent agent, Michele worked as a software engineer and as a math teacher. Michele is passionate about increasing the diversity of inventors in the patenting process, both here in the U.S. and globally. She was an ambassador for Inclusion and Diversity at her previous company, Siemens Energy, and has contributed to writings on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion topics for the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO). We are excited that Michele is a new member of Talem’s Patent Team!

We are happy to announce that Brittany Price has joined Talem IP as an Associate Patent Attorney! Brittany graduated from Auburn University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbial, Cellular, and Molecular Biology. She went on to attend UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law and received her Juris Doctorate degree and certificate of Intellectual Property Law in May 2022. During law school she was a Board Member of Student Intellectual Property Law Association and had clerkships in patent prosecution in the fields of semiconductors and automation. Brittany started at Talem IP as a full-time externship in Spring of 2022 and joined full-time after taking the Florida bar exam. We are excited for Brittany to be a member of our patent team.
