Juneteenth, observed each year on June 19, commemorates a pivotal moment in American history. On this day in 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the emancipation of enslaved people—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued.

Today, Juneteenth serves as a time to reflect on the enduring pursuit of freedom, equality, and opportunity while honoring the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black Americans throughout our nation's history.

As we recognize this important day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to learn, reflect, and celebrate the progress that has been made while acknowledging the work that continues.

Wishing you a meaningful and inspiring Juneteenth

Every June 14th, we celebrate the Stars and Stripes on Flag Day. While we’re all familiar with the United States’ flag, we might not know all of the history behind this symbol.

To celebrate, we wanted to share a few fun facts about the history of the flag that might surprise you:

🔹 The current 50-star design was created by a 17-year-old. Robert G. Heft of Lancaster, Ohio, submitted the design as a high school project in 1958. It was chosen by President Eisenhower out of more than 3,000 submissions in 1960.

🔹 There have been 27 official versions of the flag. Twenty-five of those changes were solely to update the number of stars every time a new state joined the Union. The star additions were admitted on July 4th, and together they give us a rich visual history of the country's growth over time.

🔹 The colors of the flag have taken on their own meanings over the years. Charles Thomson, secretary of the Continental Congress, suggested that red represents hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue stands for vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

🔹 Six American flags have been planted on the moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first, but five additional Apollo missions also left a flag on the lunar surface.

🔹 The current design is the longest-running version in history. No new states have been added since Hawaii joined the Union in 1959, making this the most enduring flag design the country has ever had.

Wishing you a wonderful Flag Day filled with pride and appreciation for the history behind the flag we share.

June marks the halfway point of the year—a perfect time for business owners and entrepreneurs to pause, reflect, and refocus on the goals they set back in January.

Some plans may already be gaining momentum, while others are still waiting for the right opportunity, resources, or strategy to fall into place. But the truth is, progress in business rarely starts under perfect conditions. More often, it begins with taking the next step using the tools, knowledge, and opportunities already within reach.

Whether you're launching a new venture, expanding your client base, refining your services, improving your processes, or tackling a goal that has been sitting on your to-do list for months, remember that consistent action creates results.

As we move into the second half of the year, ask yourself: What is one business goal or challenge you can take a step toward today?

Share your answer in the comments—we'd love to hear what you're working toward and cheering you on along the way.

I am honored and humbled to share that I have been nominated for 2026 Member of the Year by the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP).

While the recipient will not be announced until Taxposium this July, being nominated is already a tremendous honor. To be recognized by fellow tax professionals for my contributions to both the profession and the community is something I truly value.

Tax preparation is more than numbers and forms—it's about educating clients, helping individuals and businesses make informed decisions, and serving our communities with integrity and professionalism. I am grateful for the opportunity to do work that I genuinely enjoy and for the relationships I have built with clients, colleagues, and fellow members of NATP along the way.

Thank you to those who nominated me and to everyone who has supported and encouraged me throughout my career. Regardless of the outcome in July, I am proud to be part of such an outstanding community of tax professionals dedicated to serving others.

June is filled with moments that remind us how courage, innovation, and a little bit of daring can leave a lasting mark on history. Here are a few milestones we are reflecting on this month:

🚀 June 18, 1983 - Sally Ride became the first American woman in space, launching aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger as a mission specialist. Out of more than 8,000 applicants, she was one of only six women selected for NASA's 1978 astronaut class.

🏀 June 6, 1946 - The Basketball Association of America was founded at a meeting in New York City, setting the stage for what would eventually become the NBA and for basketball to transform from a regional gym sport into a global phenomenon.

🎥 June 20, 1975 - Stephen Spielberg’s classic “Jaws” premiered. Not only did this movie become one of the first big summer blockbusters at movie theaters, but it also gifted us with one of the most iconic movie soundtracks of all time.

These moments continue to inspire conversations about leadership, equality, creativity, and the lasting impact of a single bold step on the world.

As June marks the midpoint of the year, it can be a natural time to reflect on the first half of the year and the goals you set.

Whether you’re continuing to move toward a current goal or setting a new one, the confidence to get started does not always come before the first step. Sometimes it grows with each one.

As we settle into this month, what is one dream or goal you are ready to pursue with a little more boldness in the second half of the year? Share it in the comments. We would love to hear what you are working toward.
