Big things happening in Keokuk! 🏗️✨

Our crew has been hard at work bringing 19 N. 7th Street back to life. What was once a deteriorating building with an uncertain future has been fully transformed into four beautiful apartments.

We’re proud to give this space a second chance and even more excited to welcome its new tenants as this building begins its next chapter.

✨ We’re honored to share that our Keokuk Main Street project has been recognized with a National Association of Development Organizations 2025 Impact Award. ✨

This redevelopment began with three deteriorating buildings totaling 18,100 square feet, many areas of which were in severe disrepair.

From the start, this project was a team effort. With the support of the City of Keokuk and Southeast Iowa Regional Planning, we worked to preserve as much of the historic block as possible and bring new life to Main Street. The design process posed unique challenges—three independent, narrow buildings that lacked conforming stairwells or proper egress. A great deal of planning went into reworking the layout to maximize usable space and create safe, accessible hallways and staircases for the future residents.

One of the toughest construction hurdles involved the north wall, which had originally been an interior wall made of soft brick with no windows. To rebuild it safely, the floors and roof had to be carefully shored before the wall could be removed and constructed new, this time with window openings to bring light into the apartments.

Today, these buildings are now home to 16 fully renovated apartments. Plus three buildings were preserved to remain part of Keokuk’s Main Street

This recognition is truly a reflection of community partners working together to save an important piece of downtown and create quality housing for Keokuk.
