Legalese, simplified: “Probate” sounds complicated—but it’s really just the process of handling someone’s affairs after they pass away.

That includes things like paying off debts, distributing assets, and making sure everything is handled properly. Where people get overwhelmed is not the concept—it’s the process.

There are steps, timelines, and decisions that aren’t always obvious at first.
That’s usually where having someone walk you through it makes all the difference.

Most people put their will off longer than they should.

Not because it’s not important—
but because it’s easy to think there’s always more time. On it's a good reminder of what really matters.

With the warmer weather finally here, we’re seeing more neighbors out on their bikes along Route 221 and near the Ivy Hill area. It’s a great time for a quick refresher on Virginia’s "Share the Road" laws.

The 3-Foot Rule: In Virginia, drivers are legally required to give cyclists at least three feet of space when passing. If you can’t give them that much room safely, the law allows you to wait until traffic is clear to pass.

Did you know? Cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities on the road as motorists. Let’s look out for one another so everyone gets home safely.

After a car accident, a settlement offer can feel like a sense of relief—especially when medical bills and expenses start adding up. But accepting too quickly can sometimes lead to bigger problems down the road.

Before agreeing to a settlement, it’s important to make sure a few key factors are fully considered:

• Policy limits – Insurance companies won’t pay more than the coverage allows, so understanding those limits matters.

• Medical expenses (now and in the future) – It’s not just about current bills. Ongoing care, rehabilitation, or long-term needs can significantly impact the true cost of an injury.

• Lost wages and earning potential – Time away from work is one thing, but some injuries can affect future income and career opportunities as well.

Every situation is different, but taking the time to look at the full picture can help avoid settling for less than what’s truly needed. Read more on our recent blog post: https://www.craigtillerlaw.com/blog/2026/03/3-financial-figures-that-influence-car-crash-settlements/
