Yesterday evening residents on the north east side of Fond du Lac may have witnessed or encountered these dangerous suspects in a stolen vehicle who attempted to elude law enforcement in three separate pursuits. Thankfully our deputies were finally able to end the dangerous driving with a well executed PIT maneuver and both suspects were taken into custody. These suspects were determined to get away, and even took the time to switch out license plates they had stolen off another vehicle between the first pursuit with a Trooper in Winnebago County and the second pursuit where our deputies spotted the vehicle. Additionally, the passenger admitted they were smoking fentanyl while driving in the stolen vehicle.

On July 21st at 6:29 p.m. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center was notified by Wisconsin State Patrol of a stolen vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 41 near Breezewood Lane in Winnebago County. Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of Interstate 41 in attempt to locate the stolen vehicle.

At approximately 6:37 p.m. the Communications Center advised a State Trooper was in pursuit of the vehicle southbound on Interstate 41 from STH 21 in Winnebago County. A few moments later the Communications Center advised State Patrol had terminated the pursuit as the vehicle exited eastbound into the City of Oshkosh on 9th Avenue.

At approximately 7:20 p.m. a Deputy with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle matching the description, displaying a different license plate then originally given, southbound on Lakeshore Drive from Lone Elm Road in the Town of Friendship. The Deputy caught up to the suspect vehicle and activated his emergency lights and siren in attempt to stop the vehicle. The suspect vehicle increased speed failing to stop for the Deputy. The suspect vehicle passed multiple vehicles southbound on Lakeshore Drive almost striking a northbound vehicle head on. The pursuit continued into the City of Fond du Lac eastbound on Scott Street from Lakeshore Drive. The suspect vehicle failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Scott Street and Main Street. The pursuit was terminated due to speeds and driving behavior in the City of Fond du Lac.

Another Deputy advised he located the suspect vehicle eastbound on Winnebago Drive near Prairie Road in the Town of Fond du Lac. The Deputy activated his emergency lights and siren and again the suspect vehicle failed to pull over for the Deputy by increasing speed. The pursuit continued eastbound at a high rate of speed towards USH 151. The pursuit went southbound on USH 151. The suspect vehicle avoided tire deflation devices that were deployed. The pursuit continued southbound on USH 151 and exited at Johnson Street in the City of Fond du Lac. The pursuit went eastbound on Johnson Street still driving at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle went southbound on Wisconsin American Drive. The suspect vehicle left the roadway driving onto the lawn of a business. The suspect vehicle went back across Wisconsin American Drive onto another lawn in attempt to avoid Deputies. A Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT maneuver) was attempted at Wisconsin American Drive and Johnson Street. The pursuit headed westbound on Johnson Street in the eastbound lane nearly striking multiple civilian vehicles. The pursuit continued eastbound on Johnson Street in the westbound lane causing more civilians vehicles to swerve to avoid collision with suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle went southbound on Prairie Road in the City of Fond du Lac failing to stop for a stop sign at Division Street. A Deputy performed a PIT maneuver on the suspect vehicle causing the suspect vehicle to lose control. The suspect vehicle collided with a tree at near Morningside Drive. After the suspect vehicle crashed a male and female occupant exited the vehicle immediately and were taken into custody without further incident. The Sheriff’s Office squad received minor damage from the PIT maneuver.

The driver was transported by ambulance to the hospital for minor injuries. The passenger was transported by a Deputy to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries.

The driver is a 23 year old male from Green Bay who had a felony warrant through probation and parole. The driver was transported to the Fond du Lac County Jail for charges of Fleeing and Eluding, Operate Motor Vehicle without Owner’s Consent, Reckless Endangering Safety, Receive Stolen Property, Possession of Schedule I and II Narcotics Drugs.

The passenger is a 22 year old female from Green Bay who was out on a signature bond in Brown County for Possession of Electric Weapon and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The female had an active warrant for that case as well as a second warrant through Outagamie County. The passenger will be transported to the Fond du Lac County Jail once medically cleared for charges of Felony and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, Fleeing and Eluding Party to a Crime, Receive Stolen Property, Operate Motor Vehicle without Owner’s Consent-Passenger, Possession of Schedule I and II Narcotic Drugs.

The Wisconsin State Patrol and City of Fond du Lac Police Department assisted in the pursuit. The City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue assisted at the scene to treat the occupants for injuries. The pursuit lasted approximately 15 miles.

My sign looked pretty yesterday. Sometimes I sit in the car in front of my office and just look at my sign and smile. I have been in business for 30 years, but I always worked from home. Dispatchers typically do most of their work on the other side of the phone, behind the headset. But they all have a vested interest in helping people, or they wouldn't be in the job. Recently Dispatcher Isabella was on her way home from her work shift, which ends at 10:00pm. As Isa was traveling, she was near a very dark area where the roadway is near water, and she noticed a vehicle drive into an area it should not have been. Isa immediately realized a passenger car had driven into the water, and she quickly sprung into action and summoned additional help. By acting quickly, she was instrumental in helping this person, who was not from the area, was lost, and had medical concerns. This clearly could have resulted in a very different outcome, had Isa not intervened when she did.

For her efforts in going above and beyond, Sheriff Matz presented Dispatcher Isabella with an agency Challenge Coin.
