CA Bar Style

CA Bar Style CA Bar Style is a full service CA Bar Exam tutoring company that offers in-classroom and personal tut WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO PASS?

CA Bar Style specializes in teaching first-time and repeat CA bar takers how to put the CA Bar behind them once and for all. Specifically, we focus on how to write for the essay and performance test portions of the CA Bar Exam in an intimate and personalized course setting and guide applicants on becoming a "triple threat" for all three areas of the exam. We also offer online and phone conferencing services. If you are a repeater of the CA Bar Exam and are feeling disheartened, unmotivated and in need of a tutor and guide to give you the edge and motivation you need to pass, you have come to the right place. Our services focus on all three areas of the exam, but our specialty is the essay and performance test portions, specifically how to write for the exam and develop an organized and concise essay that will gain you a passing bar answer. Most repeaters who come to us from other courses have lacked guidance on how to organize and analyze a bar essay answer that will show Examiners that they are ready to become attorneys in California. We know what it takes to give the CA Bar Examiners exactly what they are looking for from applicants and look forward to working with each student in order to reach their goal of passing the exam. WHAT IS "BAR STYLE"

“Bar Style” stands for the level of writing and analysis which is expected from a CA Bar applicant. The CA Bar Examiners are known to be looking for a particular analysis and style of writing that is distinct from your law school exams and essays. You will have three hours to complete three essays on both Tuesday and Thursday morning, each of which will be filled with complex legal issues and some essays will also overlap with multiple areas of law. Thus, as a bar taker, you will need to know how to deliver, in a timely fashion, an organized analysis that illustrates your knowledge of the law and it’s application to all of the facts presented. You will also need to know how to organize your essay with the proper headings and writing styles that the Examiners are looking for. Our personalized methods will thoroughly prepare you tackle the writing portion of the CA Bar, make you feel at ease in a timed setting and ready for any curve balls the CA Bar will throw at you, which they always do. Whether you are a first-time taker straight out of law school, a repeater, working full-time, a mother, father, an out-of-state attorney or foreign applicant, we will work closely and personally with you to be your guide on your path to putting the CA Bar behind you.

WHAT WILL THE NEXTGEN BAR EXAM ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?

California will begin administering the NextGen Bar Exam in July 2028. But what exactly is NextGen, and how will its nine hours of testing be structured?

In this video, I break down:

• Standalone multiple-choice questions
• Integrated question sets
• Performance tasks
• How the different components will be graded
• Why NextGen will be different—but not necessarily easier

I am taking a deep dive into the NextGen testing framework as I begin developing the CA Bar Style NextGen curriculum. This is only the beginning of an ongoing educational series.

For applicants taking the February 2027, July 2027 or February 2028 California Bar Exam, you still have the opportunity to prepare for the legacy format we know and understand.

The final October 5 Early Bar Prep start is available for February 2027 applicants and July 2027 applicants who want a light start before the holidays.

Bar Exam applicants commonly spend approximately 400 to 600 hours preparing for the exam.

Using the lower end of that range—400 hours—here is what starting October 5 gives you:

🔹 141 days until the February 2027 California Bar Exam
A mathematical average of approximately 20 hours per week

🔹 296 days until the July 2027 California Bar Exam
A mathematical average of approximately 9.5 hours per week

But Bar preparation is not a flat weekly schedule.

The early weeks are designed to build the foundation at a manageable pace. As the exam approaches, preparation intensifies and weekly hours increase. Every CA Bar Style schedule is individualized based on the applicant’s exam date, background, obligations and specific areas for improvement.

Starting early does not mean studying at maximum intensity from day one. It means having time to prepare strategically instead of trying to fix everything during the final weeks.

October 5 is the final Early Bar Prep start for February 2027 and an opportunity for July 2027 applicants to begin before the holidays.

Valentin enrolled in Early Bar Prep and the CA Bar Style Attorney Program while working full-time. WHO IS THE CA BAR STYLE APPLICANT?
THE WORKING PARENT.

Melinda worked full-time during law school and while preparing for the Bar Exam, all while raising two children, one in high school and one in elementary school.

She passed the February 2025 California Bar Exam on her first attempt.

Her story shows that Bar preparation does not have to follow one rigid schedule. At CA Bar Style, we tailored Melinda’s preparation around her work and family responsibilities, adjusting the program when necessary without sacrificing the work required to pass.

If you have found Bar Prep overwhelming because of everything already on your plate, this can be you in 2027. You can work. You can parent. You can prepare for the Bar. Your preparation simply needs to be designed around your actual life.

WHO IS THE CA BAR STYLE APPLICANT?

Megan V. passed the October 2020 California Bar Exam on her third attempt.

Megan was not a repeater who needed to work harder. She was already working hard. She needed a completely different direction, a new approach and someone who would hold her accountable while remaining personally invested in her success.

In Megan’s words, she could not have become a lawyer without CA Bar Style. We changed her entire approach, worked closely together and refused to let another attempt look like the ones before it.

This is the CA Bar Style repeater: capable, committed and ready to stop repeating preparation that has not worked.

HOW LONG SHOULD YOU PREPARE FOR THE CALIFORNIA BAR EXAM?

There is no one size fits all answer. The amount of preparation I recommend depends heavily on the type of applicant you are, your prior preparation, your schedule, your strengths and weaknesses, and whether you are a first time taker, repeater, foreign trained applicant, working applicant or attorney applicant.

These are my general recommendations based on over 16 years of Bar Exam preparation and tutoring more than 4,000 applicants. During your consultation, I can give you a much more individualized recommendation based on your specific circumstances.

Our next Early Bar Prep start date is October 5. This is our FINAL Early Bar Prep start for February 2027 and is also available for applicants preparing early for July 2027.

If passing in 2027 is the goal, let’s figure out the right timeline for YOU.
