House Bill 1063, if passed, will implement new, stricter requirements on landlords to address mold problems. Landlords would have 3 days to address mold complaints and 7 days to complete treatment. Landlords that fail to do so may be subject to a $1,000 fine and liable for the tenant's medical bills.

House Bill 1063, or the Anti-Fungi Act, would require landlords make repairs and provide treatment for mold after it was reported by the renter.

On December 26th, the 5th Circuit vacated its ruling that removed the injunction on the Beneficial Ownership Interest Report requirement. Therefore, submissions are on a voluntary basis only.

12/24/2024

The 5th Cir. lifted the nationwide preliminary injunction on the BOIR requirement. The deadline to file (for businesses created before January 1, 2024) is extended to January 13, 2024. Businesses created in 2024 should refer to the FinCen website for the new filing deadline.

Beware of fraud/scam pages, e-mails, attachments, and suspicious links. There's NO FEE to submit the BOIR on the FinCen website. Also, FinCEN does not send initial correspondences regarding CTA penalties via e-mail or over the phone.
