Speaking to second-year residents for the Southeast Michigan Center for Medical Education (SEMCME), the team shared critical insights on:

-Shoulder dystocia delivery risks.
-Defense strategies for medical malpractice litigation.

Joslyn Iafrate and Maha Zeidan recently presented a Grand Rounds session at Henry Ford Providence Hospital, where they shared practical insights on medical malpractice litigation and healthcare risk management.

Joslyn and Maha met with general surgery residents, surgical specialty fellows, and faculty surgeons to discuss the progression of malpractice claims and the nuances of the litigation process.

The session focused on actionable strategies for reducing risk, including:

-Enhancing provider-to-patient communication.

-Implementing thorough, high-quality documentation practices.

-Developing a proactive mindset toward risk awareness.

The presentation led to a productive exchange regarding the day-to-day realities of defending medical malpractice claims and how clinical teams can better protect their practice.

We are grateful to Henry Ford Providence Hospital for the opportunity to engage with their surgical faculty and staff on these critical topics.

Attorneys Jenna Wright Greenman and Ron Wagner secured a no cause verdict in a matter involving plastic surgery where the plaintiff developed a post-operative complication.

Through meticulous trial preparation and a unified defense strategy, they rigorously challenged the opposition's claims regarding post-operative complications. The jury deliberated for just 42 minutes before returning a defense verdict. Congratulations to Ron, Jenna, and the entire team on this hard-earned victory!

Barbara Martin secured a critical win at the trial level by successfully filling and arguing a Motion for Summary Disposition to preclude Plaintiff’s nurse from testifying at Trial in a medical malpractice case filed against our hospital client, based on her testimony in deposition, leading to the dismissal of the case.

When the Plaintiff appealed, Katharine Gostek successfully argued the appeal, which upheld the lower court’s decision.

Exceptional work by both Barbara and Katharine to protect our client’s interests!
