Complex divorce requires more than a basic property division plan.

When significant assets, a business, trusts, inheritance, or retirement accounts are involved, the decisions made during divorce can affect your financial future for years to come.

At The Ashmore Law Firm, we help clients approach complex divorce with a full strategy that considers:

Asset protection
Business valuation
Tax-sensitive issues
Trusts and estate considerations
Long-term financial security

If your divorce involves substantial assets or a business, it is important to understand not only what is being divided, but what needs to be protected.

Friday is giving us options: save the planet, eat a donut, or ideally both. 🍩🌎

In honor of National Donut Day and World Environment Day, we support a balanced approach:

Hug a tree.
Recycle something.
Eat a donut.

A perfectly reasonable Friday, if you ask us.

One common misconception about Texas divorce is that everything is automatically divided 50/50.

In a high net worth divorce, the reality is often more complex. Texas is a community property state, but courts divide community property in a way that is considered “just and right.” That does not always result in an equal split.

Assets may need to be identified, valued, traced, and protected. This can be especially important when the divorce involves business interests, real estate, investments, retirement accounts, trusts, separate property claims, or significant debt.

At The Ashmore Law Firm, we understand that complex property division requires careful preparation and strategy.

The conversation may feel emotional, but preparation is strategic.

Before you say, “I want a divorce,” it is important to take a step back and think through the practical pieces that may affect your home, finances, children, and legal position.

Three things to consider before having that conversation:

Get clear on your finances.
Know what you have, what you owe, what you spend, and what documents you may need.
Understand your legal position.
Every family situation is different. Speaking with a family law attorney early can help you avoid costly mistakes and surprises.
Think through living and parenting plans.
Where will you live? How will time with the children be handled? A thoughtful plan can help create stability during an uncertain time.

At The Ashmore Law Firm, we help you plan before you act.

Collaborative divorce can offer Texas families a more private, controlled, and less combative way to resolve divorce issues.

It may be especially helpful when spouses want to avoid a courtroom battle, protect sensitive financial information, and work toward creative solutions for parenting, property, support, and complex assets.

However, collaborative divorce is not the right fit for every case. If one spouse is hiding money, refusing to provide records, using intimidation, or delaying the process, court intervention may be necessary.

At The Ashmore Law Firm, we help clients evaluate their options and choose the divorce process that best protects their family, finances, and future.

Contact our office to discuss whether collaborative divorce may be right for your case.
