Important F-1 & J-1 Visa Update

Significant changes are coming for F-1 international students and J-1 exchange visitors beginning September 15, 2026.

Under the new rules, F-1 and J-1 visa holders will move away from the current “Duration of Status” (D/S) admission system and instead receive a specific Admit Until Date (AUD). The new rules also affect how long students and exchange visitors can remain in the United States, grace periods, travel and reentry, and certain OPT applications.

For those already in the U.S. in D/S status when the rule takes effect, special transition provisions may apply.

If you are an F-1 student or J-1 exchange visitor, understanding how these changes could affect your status, travel plans, or OPT eligibility is important.

Read our latest blog to learn more about the upcoming changes and what you should know.
