This week, our staff participated in United Way of Jefferson County Ohio's Day of Action, working with the American Red Cross of Central Appalachia Region Cross to install new smoke detectors in homes. LASCO is grateful for the opportunity to give back to community partners in Steubenville and throughout our service area. 💛❤️

LASCO staff gathered at our Newark office last week for a New Attorney Training, part of a two-year program for attorneys and law graduates that covers legal practice skills, topics, and best practices. All LASCO attorneys, regardless of their previous experience, attend these sessions to learn how we approach legal practice and work to fight poverty and increase access to justice.

Older Ohioans with low incomes face unique challenges as they age. On , we’re highlighting the 22% of our clients who are seniors.

Last year, LASCO staff helped 3,300 seniors plan for the future, access health care and support services, protect against abuse and exploitation, navigate consumer, custody, housing, and income issues, and more. Lost power during recent storms?⚡️If you receive SNAP benefits, you may qualify for replacement benefits to cover food lost during outages of 4 hours or more.

To apply, complete JFS Form 07222 within 10 days of the food loss and submit it to your County Department of Job and Family Services. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is encouraging households to provide verification of the extended power outage (such as screenshots of news reports, outage maps, or alerts).
