MMLS is sponsoring a free event that includes housing resources for homeowners, renters, and landlords. The event will be held, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Guiding Light Baptist Church, 1023 Westminster Avenue., Fulton, MO. The doors and booths will open at 4:00 pm., and presentations will begin at 5:00 pm. Roger Dyer, Attorney for Mid-Missouri Legal Services will present on rights and responsibilities under Missouri Law. Admission is free! Mid-Missouri Legal Services (MMLS) delivers legal services to eleven (11) counties in central Missouri. Due to the unique challenges of serving a primarily rural area, MMLS has developed a plan to use volunteers in a variety of ways to expand the reach and effectiveness of the program. MMLS takes into consideration the input from segments of the client community, private attorneys, and bar associations in the development of its annual Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) Plan. Lawsuits halt student debt relief program – Student loan payment pause extended

New applications for student loan debt relief are no longer being accepted because of lawsuits challenging the debt cancellation program. Up-to-date information about the status of the program is available from the U.S. Department of Education: Debt Relief | Application | Federal Student Aid.

The Department of Education announced the debt cancellation program in August 2022, and applications became available in October 2022. Missouri voters approved “Amendment 3” in the recent election to legalize recreational ma*****na. The amendment to Article XIV of the Missouri Constitution takes effect on December 8, 2022. Mid-Missouri Legal Services has full-time openings for staff attorneys to provide representation in family law cases, including, adoption, divorce, custody, paternity and modification proceedings, as well as adult and child guardianship cases, and orders of protection.

Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and must be: 1) licensed to practice law in Missouri, or 2) be eligible to sit for the February 2023 bar examination in Missouri and successfully complete all bar license requirements by 04/30/2023. For more information, click on this link.
