Myers Law is donating $500 to the Twinsburg City School District to use in the purchase of asthma inhalers for Wilcox Primary School students and other District school students. Twinsburg recently implemented a program to purchase, stock, and administer asthma inhalers for students having asthma attacks at Wilcox. Wilcox is a school for students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade.
This is an important issue to Dan Myers; his children take daily asthma medication. “This is a crucial program to protect students’ lives and health,” said Myers.
This program is especially helpful for children who have asthma but no diagnosis or symptoms at this point. “Many families deal with childhood asthma, but some parents don’t know their children have it until they suffer an attack. For families who don’t know their children have asthma, this program could be the difference between life and death,” said Myers.
Even for children with an asthma diagnosis, this program can be essential. When children experience an asthma attack, immediate access to an inhaler is necessary to keep them alive and breathing. “Families have lost children because an inhaler was locked up too far from where the child is having an attack. I thank Twinsburg Schools for following through with its promise last year to implement this program and make inhalers available when needed,” Myers said.
The District stated in an email to Myers that it is exploring implementing this program at other District schools, as well. Under an Ohio law, schools are empowered to buy, stock, administer inhalers, and accept donations for buying them, to protect students and workers in the case of an asthma attack.
