Dogs running free can be hazardous… even deadly. We’ve resolved dozens of dog v cyclist claims throughout Ohio… attorney Chris Carville and I have had them in KY as well.

Dog causes crash, Dog slams into bike, Dog attacks/bites cyclist… we have handled them all - rural/urban/suburban - I love dogs, but if they are unleashed and escape onto the road, or are loose in a park, in Ohio anyway, the law is clear - the “owner, keeper, handler” is 100% liable for all damages - all medical bills - pain and suffering…we’ve resolved these cases for significant sums- in one case near Toledo I had the dog owner refuse to tell us who his insurer was and, in fact, he filed a counterclaim against my cyclist client for running into and injuring the dog! In that case the Judge ordered the dog owner into court and told him he HAD to tell us who the insurer was… he did, and we got the case resolved eventually…

Sadly, dog owners are often not carrying sufficient liability insurance and there is no type of “underinsured” coverage you can purchase like you can in the auto insurance arena…
