Nobody actually agrees on who invented the California burrito — and San Diego has strong opinions about it.

Several San Diego taco shops from the 1980s and '90s each claim to be the original home of the carne asada, fries, cheese, and sour cream combination that became the California burrito. There's no single documented inventor — just decades of loyal customers defending their shop's version as the real one.

Tag someone and start the argument.

The seals didn't always own Children's Pool — but the cave next door has always had a shady past.

Children's Pool is now one of the most reliable seal rookeries in Southern California. A short walk away, Sunny Jim Cave has a documented history as a smuggling route for whiskey during Prohibition, accessed through a hand-carved tunnel that's still open to visitors today.

Send this to someone planning a La Jolla day trip.

In 1941, San Diego needed 3,000 homes fast — and got them in about 200 days.

Linda Vista was built as federal wartime housing to shelter the flood of workers pouring into San Diego's defense industry. The neighborhood also holds one of the first shopping centers ever built in the United States.

Tag someone who lives in Linda Vista.

Del Mar's Powerhouse Park has had four completely different lives — and none of them started as a park.

It began as an actual electric powerplant. Then it became a nightclub. Then a desalination plant was proposed for the site and failed. Only after all of that did the city turn it into the beachfront community park locals use today.

Send this to someone who thinks they know Del Mar.

First-time buyers usually don't get stuck on the house — they get stuck on the order of operations.

Pre-approval, budget reality, neighborhood shortlist, then touring — in that order, not reversed. Buyers who tour first and figure out financing later are the ones who lose the house they actually wanted.

Comment ROADMAP and I'll send you my First-Time Buyer Roadmap.

I've sat across the table from more than one military family who thought homeownership wasn't realistic on their timeline.

It usually comes down to the same gap: nobody explained how the VA benefit actually works in a market like San Diego's, or what a PCS timeline really allows for. That's the exact conversation I have with clients before we ever look at a listing.

Comment ORDERS and I'll send you my complete VA Buyer Guide.

Poway calls itself "The City in the Country" — and it's not just a slogan.

Incorporated December 1, 1980, Poway keeps over 50% of its 39.4 square miles as protected open space. Old Poway Park still runs a fully restored 1907 Baldwin steam locomotive on weekends — one of the few operating steam trains left in Southern California.

Tag someone who needs to ride the Poway steam train.

Rancho San Diego sits on land that's been called "the box" since before California was a state.

The community sits within the historic Rancho El Cajón, a 48,800-acre Mexican land grant given in 1845 to María Antonia Estudillo de Pedrorena. Today it's an unincorporated, master-planned East County community bordered by Casa de Oro-Mount Helix, Spring Valley, and Jamul.

Send this to someone who's never been to East County.

Most veterans find out what their VA loan can actually do after they've already lost a house to a cash offer.

Your VA benefit can mean zero down, no PMI, and a competitive edge lenders rarely explain clearly upfront. The buyers who move fastest in San Diego's market are the ones who understand their benefit before they start touring homes, not after.

Comment ORDERS and I'll send you my complete VA Buyer Guide.

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse was retired after only 36 years — and it wasn't because it broke.

Built in 1855 and shut down in 1891, the lighthouse sat too high on the point — fog and low clouds regularly rolled in beneath its beam, hiding the light from ships that needed it most. A newer, lower lighthouse replaced it. Point Loma was also once known as "Tunaville" for its role as the heart of San Diego's tuna fishing industry.

Send this to someone who loves Point Loma history.
