Canopy MLS data for the 16-county region showed the housing market remained steady in June 2026. Buyer demand continued to demonstrate resilience despite mortgage rates reaching nearly 7% throughout much of the month.

"The same economic fundamentals that continue to attract new residents and employers to our region are also supporting steady buyer demand,” said Joan Goode, Realtor, 2026 president of Canopy Realtor® Association/Canopy MLS. “Buyers continue to enter the market, sellers are bringing more homes online and inventory is steadily improving.”

For nearly 30 years, Steve has been an invaluable member of Canopy’s leadership team. He has served as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, providing uninterrupted operation and continued advancement of the 17th largest MLS in the nation, with more than 22,000 subscribers.

In his new role as CEO of Canopy MLS, Steve will provide strategic leadership and oversee our organization’s operations, financial stewardship, innovation and long-term growth while ensuring exceptional service to subscribers, brokers, technology partners and consumers.

Anne Marie DeCatsye, Esq., who is retiring at the end of 2026 after leading both Canopy MLS and the Canopy Realtor® Association for over 25 years, says: “I have enormous confidence in Steve’s leadership and the strategic, collaborative relationships he’s built with our technology vendors and partners. His extensive background in MLS operations, technology, innovation, compliance and standards makes him an invaluable resource to our subscribers and the broader industry."

Steve Byrd, VP/CTO of Canopy MLS, recently participated on a panel with MLS leaders Raegan Trimmer and Robin Simpson at the MLS PEAK RETREAT, hosted by Midwest Real Estate Data LLC, in Park City, Utah.

Moderated by Joe Szurgyi, CEO of MLS Grid, the panelists discussed datashares and lessons learned. Steve shared Canopy’s experience with the SE MLS Alliance, a collaborative effort among Canopy MLS, Charleston Trident Regional MLS, Georgia MLS, Realtracs in Nashville and realMLS in Northeast Florida.

The Alliance offers enhanced services and benefits to brokers and agents with greater access to data, creating a more open, transparent and efficient marketplace.

Congratulations to Zyan Martin, recipient of the 2026 Youth Excellence in Service (YES) Award presented by the Canopy Housing Foundation.

The YES Award recognizes young people who demonstrate exceptional leadership through volunteer service and a commitment to improving their communities.

Inspired through his Eagle Scout service project, Zyan founded Beyond the Bridge, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families experiencing housing crises during the critical first hours after displacement. Through his leadership, the organization has provided emergency hotel stays, food assistance, hygiene kits, clothing and other essential resources while helping restore hope, dignity and stability for families in need. In recognition of his outstanding service, the Canopy Housing Foundation also donated $500 to MSI Global Campus, the nonprofit selected by Zyan to receive funding in his honor.

Congratulations, Zyan, and thank you for reminding us that leadership has no age limit.
