One of the best perks of sponsoring a pig or pigs at Ironwood Pig Sanctuary is the regular updates--with pictures!--and the latest one from October 1 did not disappoint! Sadly, one of our sponsors Eleanor died recently, but we found a new pig to love, Penny Lane! Here are some fun pix of her as well as our now-single man, Henry! This latest digest is brought to you by their newest sponsor-volunteer coordinator, Barb (which I love because I have a cousin named Barb too!) Enjoy, and happy fall y'all!

Recently I participated in a legal clinic in South Phoenix sponsored by the State Bar of Arizona. I helped answer people's questions related to family law, estate planning and real estate. Also great learning about some local organizations that assist the public with their legal needs and meeting some of my colleagues/allied professionals and reconnecting with others! Also enjoyed snacks and a great lunch catered by Jersey Mike's!

If you live in the Phoenix metro, please tune in tomorrow between 5 and 7 p.m. to watch ABC15 Arizona latest "ABC15 Knows" session, this one on family law. Callers will call in with family-law related questions, and I will be one of the people manning the phone bank! I did this once before, and am so excited for an encore performance! LOL! It's very rewarding helping the public with their legal needs!

The State Bar of Arizona is a non-profit organization that operates under the supervision of the Arizona Supreme Court. The Bar regulates approximately 18,500 active attorneys and provides education and development programs for the legal profession and the public. The Bar's mission states that it ex...

Celebrating so much happiness for a client of mine who recovered his dog after a multi-year battle, and he's such a great guy that he offered (and the other party agreed to) shared possession, even cross-country. It's a real crapshoot with these pet-custody dispute cases, so this is the absolute best outcome one could hope for.

I have toured this museum, and to say it is spooky is putting it mildly. What it must have been like to be incarcerated there back in the day.

Standing above history, the Guard Tower at the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park remains one of the most iconic and photographed landmarks on the grounds.

Originally built with a round rock foundation that once served as the prison’s water reservoir, the structure has transformed over time. To combat evaporation under the relentless Sonoran sun, a wooden deck was later added—eventually evolving into what became the Main Guard Tower.

From this elevated vantage point, guards once patrolled the high prison walls, keeping constant watch over the inmates and the surrounding desert landscape. Today, that same height offers visitors something very different: sweeping 360-degree views of the Yuma East Wetlands, the historic Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge, and the solemn grounds of the Prison Cemetery.

Standing there, it’s easy to imagine the rhythm of footsteps along the walls… and the watchful eyes that once never left the horizon.

This article from U.S. News & World Report does a pretty good job of comparing various pet insurance policies. It's worth looking into as veterinary costs continue to rise in the United States and beyond.

You don't need to break the bank to protect your dog or cat with pet insurance. The cheapest pet insurance companies from our rating may have policies to fit your budget.

Wells Fargo is giving my hubby and all their other employees tomorrow off, for Juneteenth. I may have to ask my employer (myself) whether I can also have the day off. LOL! Even if I do have to do some work, I will be celebrating along with him and everyone else who recognizes the importance of this newer holiday, which recognizes the official end of slavery on June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War. Peace out, peeps!

Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday's name, first used in the 1890s, is a portmanteau of June and nineteenth, referring to June...

Well, we did it: We picked out a new girl pig to sponsor at Ironwood Pig Sanctuary! Her name is Penny Lane, which fits perfectly with our other recent sponsored pigs Henry ("Henry the 8th") and Eleanor ("Eleanor Pigby"), the latter who just passed away and was the reason for our special visit. Penny Lane, who used to be called Penelope until they ended up with too many Penelopes, is a special gal who was born with some defects that resulted in basically a smushed-looking face, which we think makes her even cuter!

Here is a brief summary from Julia Ewer, the sponsorship coordinator at Ironwood:

"Penny Lane arrived on Valentine’s Day 2025. Her human was moving and didn’t want to take her along. He said his sister had “dumped” her on him two years prior and he had no interest in having a pig. So sad for this sweet girl!

Penny Lane was taken to the vet clinic in order to get spayed. Unfortunately, they were unable to do the surgery because her trachea is deformed and they were not able to intubate her to undergo anesthesia. We try to spay the females even though all our males are neutered because around 85% of intact females develop uterine tumors as they age. Hopefully, that will not be the case for Penny Lane.

There must not have been much socialization at her previous home because Penny Lane was reluctant to be touched. Over time, she has gotten more comfortable with that and lets us pet her now. Relaxing enough to lie down for a belly rub is still a dream, but we’re getting there and are just happy that she is here with people who love her and care about her. Sadly, this made caring for Penny Lane when her eye troubles started a bit difficult.

In August 2025, Penny Lane was having some eye trouble. We took her into the vet where she was diagnosed with conjunctivitis and put on several different eye medications. She wasn’t a huge fan of us having to get close and personal to administer the 4 different medications in her right eye but she tolerated it well as long as she was distracted by food or juice. After about a month, her conjunctivitis was cleared up but her dry remained so Penny Lane continues to get eye meds once a day, however, now it is only one eye med.

At the beginning of October 2025, we started introducing Penny Lane into Northeast field along with 5 other pigs. One of these pigs is Gracie Mae, whom she’d become friends with a couple of months prior. It took a couple of months, and Penny Lane proving to be a bit spicy, holding her ground with the other pigs, but she is fully integrated into the herd! The reason for this process taking so long is due to staff always needing to be present to watch over the pigs so that when they fight to establish hierarchy in the herd and over territories and shelter, we can break them up quickly and keep them from hurting themselves and each other.

Penny Lane is doing great and enjoying her life here. She is 10.5 years old and in good health. Her face is a bit deformed and crooked, which gives her a unique, precious appearance."

Welcome, Penny Lane, to the Joan Bundy Law family of sponsored rescue pigs!
