Today marks one of the most powerful moments in American history - June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas received word of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Juneteenth is a day of reflection, remembrance, and celebration. It honors the strength and resilience of those who endured enslavement - and reminds us all that the work of building a more just and equitable society is ongoing.
Wishing everyone a meaningful Juneteenth.
