Kurt W. Porter, partner at Severson Porter Law, was the recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Service Private Practitioner award from the Minnesota Justice Foundation.

This is an award that has been consistently given to attorneys in large metro firms and/or attorneys volunteering in high profile cases. For instance, last year, Jerry Blackwell of the prosecution team for the trial of Derek Chauvin was a recipient (and this year Pres. Biden appointed Blackwell as a Federal Judge).

The MSBA announces the certification of Kurt Porter of Severson Porter Law as a MSBA Board Certified Real Property Law Specialist.

The certified specialist designation is earned by leading attorneys who have completed a rigorous approval process, including an examination, peer review, and documented experience. Certification is earned by fewer than 3% of all licensed Minnesota attorneys but 100% of Severson Porter Law partners. Certification is available in criminal law, real property, civil trial law, and labor and employment.

Mark Severson and Kurt Porter had the honor of presenting before colleagues today in the “Great Outdoors: Cabin Law” seminar for Minnesota CLE. It was an enjoyable lecture on the fascinating and ever-evolving topic of short term rentals. Severson Porter Law Associate, Joseph Pates, drafted the materials.

Super Lawyers selects Severson Porter Law attorney, Mark Severson, as a Minnesota Rising Star in 2020. Mark Severson has been previously selected as a Minnesota Rising Star.

Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters business, is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selections are made using a patented multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. Only the top 5 percent of attorneys in Minnesota are included in the annual Super Lawyers list.

Rising Star candidates must go through the same selection process as Super Lawyers but need to be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less. No more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in Minnesota are named to the Rising Stars list.
