In case you missed it, the City of Bozeman is hosting its annual Garden Party on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Museum of the Rockies.

This free event celebrates and educates attendees about water-wise gardening. There are also generous giveaways of drought-tolerant plants, compost, native seed mixes, irrigation supplies, and more.

Last, but not least, local landscape designer Linda Iverson, will give a tour of the MOR gardens while discussing how the garden was created to be both beautiful and water wise.

I want to give a shout out to the Gallatin Valley Newcomers Club (GVNC). I joined about a year ago, and I’m no newcomer, but everyone is welcome!

GVNC hosts great events for new and existing residents, including coffee, lunch, dinner, and cocktail gatherings, plus fundraisers, outdoor adventures, special interest groups, and tours of local standout attractions and businesses.

I cannot recommend GVNC enough!

Next time you’re standing under the Yellowstone National Park’s Roosevelt Arch, look east toward the park’s northern border. You’ll see Crevice Mountain rising 3,000 feet above the Yellowstone River.

Thanks to the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, its partners, private landowners, the U.S. Forest Service, The Conservation Fund, and others, over 160 acres of Crevice Mountain are now forever public and protected from mining and development, and continues to be prime habitat for grizzlies, elk, mountain lions, foxes, and many other critters.

My sweet German Shepherd, Molly, recently started showing signs of pannus, an eye condition common to her breed. If untreated, it can cause blindness. Luckily, we caught it early and are taking steps to protect her, especially from the strong UV rays in our mountain town.

All dogs can experience eye irritation or damage from extended exposure to UV rays.

For many reasons, both human and canine, it’s best to schedule outdoor activities when the sun is less intense, not between 10 am and 4 pm.

Of course, that’s not always possible, so I purchased Rex Specs (canine goggles) for Molly to provide 100 percent UVA/UVB protection.

Aside from eye protection, her new shades are quite a fashion statement!
