You may have seen WBRZ’s report on Senator John Kennedy’s visit to Ascension Parish on Tuesday, where he met with members of the Ascension Chamber of Commerce and discussed some of the important issues facing our growing community.
One topic especially important to homeowners and the real estate market is flood protection and infrastructure, mentioning the $23 million for Upper Barataria Basin flood-risk reduction and $6 million to raise a flood-prone section of Airline Highway between Sorrento and I-10.
Senator Kennedy highlighted significant federal funding for projects designed to reduce flood risk in Ascension Parish and surrounding areas, including improvements to the Upper Barataria Basin and the raising of a flood-prone section of Airline Highway.
This is encouraging news for our area, as additional floodwater management, drainage improvements, and retention projects are completed, properties that have historically faced greater flood risk could benefit over time. Reduced flood risk can strengthen buyer confidence and may ultimately positively affect property values and future flood-risk assessments.
For homeowners, buyers, and those of us who have watched Ascension Parish grow over the years, continued investment in flood protection and infrastructure is certainly something worth watching.
