Before you close on your new home, don’t rush through the final walk-through. This is your chance to make sure the home is in the condition you agreed to, before the keys are officially yours.

Here are a few things I always recommend buyers personally check during the walk-through:

🚰 Run faucets and check under sinks for leaks

💡 Test light switches, fixtures, and outlets throughout the home

🛁 Check showers, tubs, sinks, and toilets for drainage or plumbing issues

🪟 Open and close windows and sliding doors to make sure everything works properly

🪭 Turn on ceiling fans and test remotes if included

⏲️ Test appliances including the dishwasher, oven, washer, and dryer

🚘 Make sure garage doors and openers are functioning correctly

🧱 Look over ceilings, walls, and floors for any new damage or cracks

✔️ Most importantly: verify that any agreed-upon repairs were actually completed before closing day

A final walk-through isn’t just a formality — it’s protection.
