🚨 BREAKING: Remnant Law files Federal civil rights suit against Houston ISD.

On March 19, Ms. Bonnie Wallace stepped up to the podium at a public HISD Board meeting to speak on a posted agenda item about library content. Standing with her was Dr. Rick Scarborough, president of Recover America and a leader in the Houston Christian community for more than four decades.

Ms. Wallace read...word for word...from a book HISD itself had purchased with taxpayer dollars and placed in at least three school libraries.

The presiding officer cut her off and three police officers escorted her out of the building and off district property.

Dr. Scarborough then took the podium and told the Board that in over 50 years of ministry, he had never seen a Biblical pastor support giving children access to books so explicit they are banned in Texas prisons.

Think about what HISD just told the public:

âś… Explicit enough for a child to check out at school? Fine.
❌ Explicit enough to quote at a public meeting? Call the police.

The book stays. The law-abiding citizen exercising her constitutional rights gets removed.

If those words are too offensive for adults, how are they appropriate for children? And if they are appropriate for children, why was a citizen forcibly removed for quoting them?

This was never about protecting anyone from explicit content. It was about protecting the Board from criticism. That is not decorum. That is viewpoint discrimination, and the First Amendment does not allow it.

Remnant Law filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on behalf of Bonnie Wallace in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

School boards do not get to silence a citizen for seeking transparency and accountability.

We will see HISD in court.

Did You Know? There was a game-changing Supreme Court ruling in 2023 that quietly strengthened religious freedoms for millions of working Americans — and most people still haven’t heard about it.
It’s called Groff v. DeJoy.

Gerald Groff, a devoted Christian and rural mail carrier simply asked the U.S. Postal Service for Sundays off so he could worship and rest as his faith requires. For nearly 50 years, the law (Title VII) let employers deny religious accommodations if they caused even the smallest “de minimis” inconvenience. The Postal Service said no, and the old rule backed them up.

But the Supreme Court ruled unanimously: employers must now provide reasonable religious accommodations unless doing so would cause substantial increased costs in money, operations, or efficiency. No more brushing off someone’s deeply held beliefs with “it’s a little inconvenient.”

Have you had a religious accommodation denied or been retaliated against for a religious accommodation? If so, you don’t have to face it alone. Contact Remnant Law to help protect your religious liberty in the workplace.

Great news out of the 5th Circuit! They’ve cleared the way for Texas’ Senate Bill 12 to take effect, upholding the right to protect kids from sexually explicit performances.

This isn’t just about Texas, states like Tennessee, Florida, and Montana have passed similar laws to shield children from obscene content disguised as entertainment.

The First Amendment has never protected obscenity directed at children. Laws like this reflect a long-standing principle in constitutional law that the state and parents have the authority to protect a child’s innocence from obscene material.

Protecting children is not censorship, it is a duty of common decency in a moral and just civil society.

Rather than defend the Texas Medical Board, Paxton’s office is intervening in support of Bowden.
