There’s a saying I’ve heard my whole career: never look back, always look ahead.
I think that’s generally right. The next case, next trial, next client — that’s where the work is.
But I caught this in my side mirror traveling across Texas and it stopped me. Thirty years in, I’ve learned that looking back isn’t always getting stuck.
Sometimes it’s a reminder of the road you came down. Of why you started. Of how far it actually goes when you stop staring straight ahead.
The view forward gets clearer when you’ve been honest about what’s behind you. Don’t ever hesitate to look back once in a while.
