Summer fun sends millions to the ER every year. Heat exhaustion, boating accidents, burns, dehydration, food poisoning, and sports injuries all spike during the hottest months of the year.

But packed emergency rooms and overwhelmed providers can create another danger: rushed care, delayed treatment, and missed diagnoses. What starts as a “routine” summer injury can turn life-altering when warning signs are ignored.

At Bell Law Firm, we’ve seen the devastating consequences of preventable medical mistakes. If something feels wrong after an ER visit, trust your instincts and get a second opinion. A crowded emergency room is never an excuse for negligent care.

Medical negligence cases are rarely tied to a single error. More often, they reveal larger breakdowns in communication, decision making, and patient safety that can put lives at risk.

A recent article exploring medical negligence lawsuits highlights the legal and medical challenges continuing to shape malpractice litigation, from delayed diagnoses to broader systemic failures in care. For trial lawyers, these cases remain a critical part of the fight for accountability across the healthcare system.

When medical mistakes turn fatal, families are left with more than grief. They are left with questions.

Families are still losing loved ones because of missed diagnoses, surgical mistakes, medication errors, and failures in emergency care that never should have happened.

Hospitals and healthcare providers must be held accountable when preventable mistakes turn fatal. At Bell Law Firm, we fight for families searching for answers, justice, and accountability after devastating loss. While no case can reverse a tragedy, legal action can expose negligence and help prevent the same failures from hurting someone else.

If you believe medical negligence played a role in the loss of a loved one, knowing your rights matters. Read more on our blog: https://bit.ly/42sfBOF

A misdiagnosis does not always look obvious at first.

Misdiagnoses happen more often than you might think, and not because providers intend harm. Rushed exams, missed details, or overlooked tests can all play a role.

Some of the most commonly misdiagnosed conditions include:

- Cancer (especially pancreatic, brain, liver, and lung)

- Heart attacks (often mistaken for heartburn or reflux, especially in women and younger patients)

- Stroke (can mimic migraines, seizures, or other neurological issues)

Knowing the signs and asking the right questions can make a critical difference. If something feels off, trust your instincts and advocate for your health.

If you believe you’ve been misdiagnosed, speaking with an experienced attorney may help you understand your options.

We're honored to share that Bell Law Firm has been named a finalist for Medical Malpractice Firm of the Year in The National Law Journal's 2026 Elite Trial Lawyers awards.

It's a privilege to be the only Georgia firm recognized in the category, alongside a small national field. This recognition belongs to our clients — the patients and families who trusted us to hold the healthcare system accountable when it failed them — and to the team that fights for them every day.

Winners will be announced July 23 in New York. Whatever the outcome, we're proud of the work that got us here, including our recent $48M verdict in Waldrop v. Payne, and we're more committed than ever to the people we serve.

Winning in court is about who controls the story. On the latest episode of Face the Jury, Lloyd Bell sits down with legendary trial lawyer Jim Perdue, the man many call the “king” of Texas medical malpractice, to break down the courtroom tactics that changed trial law forever.

With more than 50 years of trial experience, Jim reveals why juries don’t reward the best argument, they believe the most compelling story. From high-risk strategy to the “silver bullet” moments that can flip a case overnight, this episode pulls back the curtain on what really wins at trial.

Some cases are impossible to ignore. This is one of them.

A 32-year-old patient walked into an ER with warning signs of a brain stem stroke. Those signs were missed. The window for treatment closed. The outcome was locked-in syndrome, a life changed in an instant.

A Georgia jury returned a $40M verdict, finding gross negligence tied to breakdowns in communication and a failure to bring in the care that was urgently needed.

This recognition places the case among the largest medical malpractice verdicts of 2025, but the numbers only tell part of the story. The real impact is measured in everything that was taken from one patient and their family.

At Bell Law Firm, this is why the work matters. Holding providers accountable when the standard of care is not met is not optional. It is necessary.

One year later, the loss is still unthinkable and the need for answers has not changed.

After the death of a two-year-old girl at Piedmont Eastside Medical Center, a wrongful death case was filed to confront what happened and why. Maya’s case is a stark reminder of how quickly failures in care, especially in emergency settings, can turn catastrophic.

This is not just about one moment. It is about systems, decisions, and whether the standard of care was truly met when it mattered most.

At Bell Law Firm, we continue to stand with families facing unimaginable loss and to push for accountability from institutions trusted to provide care.
