๐ฌ One Simple Phrase Can Change a Conversation
Have you ever noticed how a question can either shut a conversation down...or open it up?
When disagreements arise, the basic instinct is often to ask:
โ "Why did you do that?"
Although well-intentioned, "why" questions can sometimes make people feel defensive.
Instead, try saying:
"Help me understand what happened."
or
"Can you tell me about your perspective?"
These small changes encourage dialogue instead of defensiveness and create space for understanding.
Effective conflict resolution often begins...not with having the right answer...but with asking the right question.
โจ This week, challenge yourself to replace one "why?" question with "Help me understand..."
You may be surprised by where the conversation leads.
