After Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2021, Pakistan is the first country in the region, and one of the few globally, with gender-neutral r**e laws (applicable also to transgender people)

Interpretation/implementation remain to be seen, but this change in itself is monumental! 👏🏼

Another positive development:

The poorly thought-out provision on chemical castration - which was included earlier as a punishment for r**e in repeat offences and exceptional cases - is not part of the new law.
