The West Tech Talk Series 2026 officially launched on April 17, 2026, with its inaugural session titled โFrom Research to Market,โ bringing together participants from the academe, research community, and innovation ecosystem in a virtual learning space.
Organized by the Knowledge and Technology Transfer and Business Development Center (KTTBDC), the session marks the beginning of a continuing platform aimed at advancing research utilization, intellectual property management, and industry collaboration toward market-oriented innovation.
The program opened with a welcome message from Dr. Greta G. Gabinete, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension, who emphasized the importance of translating academic research into impactful solutions that address real-world challenges. This was followed by the rationale and official launching of the West Tech Talk Series 2026 by Dr. Arnel N. Secondes, Director of KTTBDC, highlighting the initiativeโs role in strengthening the innovation pipeline from universities to industries.
The highlight of the session was the keynote talk delivered by Dr. Bernice Mae Yu Jeco-Espaldon, a WVSU-DOST Balik Scientist, who guided participants through the pathways of transforming research outputs into intellectual property assets, startup ventures, and commercially viable innovations. Her talk underscored the importance of aligning research with market needs, protecting intellectual assets, and fostering collaborations across sectors.
An open forum followed, allowing participants to engage directly with the speaker, raising questions on commercialization strategies, technology transfer processes, and opportunities for innovation-driven partnerships.
The event concluded with the awarding of a Certificate of Appreciation to the resource speaker, followed by a closing message from Dr. Secondes, reinforcing the institutionโs commitment to building a strong culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
As the first installment of the West Tech Talk Series 2026, the successful launch sets a promising tone for upcoming sessions that aim to empower researchers, students, and innovators to move ideas beyond the laboratory and into the marketโwhere they can create real value and impact.
