NAVIGATING BUSINESS REGISTRATION: A GUIDE TO CORPORATE AFFAIRS REGISTRABLE ENTITIES.

The awareness of registration of business entities, organizations and corporations with Corporate Affairs Commission is growing rapidly and there has been a significant increase of registration of businesses within the last decade; especially, with the advent of e-registration which increased the speed of registration, convenience, reduced the cost of registration and increased productivity.

This article espoused the functions of Corporate Affairs Commission and different business entities or organizations that could be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. However, this article is limited to the analysis of different business entities that may be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. The innate peculiarities and differences of these businesses entities were not covered by this article as they would be analyzed in subsequent articles under this Volume and Issue.

THE RIGHTS AND LIABILITIES OF A LANDLORD. [VLPLS 1(1)]

It's always important to understand the legal framework surrounding the landlord and tenant legal relationship to ensure a fair and lawful arrangement. Understanding these legal bits can help ensure a fair and smooth landlord-tenant relationship.
This article focuses on the relationship between landlords and tenants in Abia State. Specifically, on the rights and liabilities of landlords. It highlights the definition of a landlord, the creation of a tenancy, and the role of the Recovery of Premises Law of Abia State in governing the relationship and the rights and liabilities of a Landlord.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION:

The relationship that exists or that is created between a Landlord and a Tenant is founded in our laws as seen below;

Section 4 (1) of the LANDLORD AND TENANT LAW CAP 109, LAWS OF ABIA STATE OF NIGERIA, 2005 provides that;
“Subject to this law or any other written law in force in the State, there shall exist a relationship of Landlord and Tenant where an interest in property is created in favour of a person out of an interest vested in another person in the same property.”

The section above is further explained by its subsection (2) which provides that;
“An interest created under subsection (1) of this section is called “tenancy”; the person out of whose interest a tenancy is created is called “Landlord”; the person in whose favour a tenancy is created is called “tenant” and the duration of the tenancy is called “term”.”

Dear Students,

This is a review of the Students' Loan Act.

The Students Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act, 2023 was among the bills that were signed into law by the new President, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu within his first few weeks in office. The said Bill was signed into Law on the 12th day of June, 2023.

The Act made some notable provisions for the application and grant of loan to indigent Nigerian students for the payment of tuition fees. Although from a cursory look of the Act and the view of some students on social media, it seems that the disbursement of the students’ loan is a Child’s play and has undemanding procedure but this is far
from the case.

From the letters of the Act, there are copious provisions that provide
for some level of conditions; both pre-disbursement and post-disbursement of the loan. This insight provides the background to some notable provisions of the Act.
