Today, 26 April 2025, entrepreneurs, inventors and creators who bring music to life celebrate World Intellectual Property Day.

The theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2025 is "IP and music: Feel the beat of IP". This year's World IP Day commemorates the vital role of intellectual property rights and innovation policies in empowering creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs in the music industry. These policies safeguard the contributions of songwriters, composers, performers, and all those shaping the music landscape, ensuring a continuous flow of fresh ideas and creativity.

In celebration of World IP Day, we are shining a light on Moroccan culture with a captivating photo featuring an Andalusian music orchestra. Originating from Arab roots in Spain and Portugal since the 9th century, this musical form has been beautifully enriched by the vibrant tapestry of North African culture.

Join the World IP Day celebration to honor the universal language of music and the talented individuals driving its evolution. Let us acknowledge the creators, inventors, and entrepreneurs who are instrumental in shaping new sounds, styles, and technologies that define the future of music, resonating with the core of intellectual property.

To mark World Anticounterfeiting Day, we would like to share with you the findings of a study by the European Union Intellectual Property Office - EUIPO entitled "Economic impact of counterfeiting in the clothing, cosmetics, and toy sectors in the EU", published in January 2024.

According to this study, counterfeited goods cost clothing, cosmetics and toy industries €16 billion & nearly 200,000 jobs per year in Europe. The clothing industry suffers the most from counterfeit goods, losing almost €12 billion of annual revenue (5.2 % of sales). The cosmetics sector and toy industry also have significantly lower sales due to counterfeit products with losses of €3 billion (4.8 % of sales) and €1 billion (8.7 % of sales).

Fake goods mean fewer jobs in the legitimate economy: 160,000 fewer in the clothing sector, 32,000 fewer in cosmetics and 3,600 fewer in the toy sector. In the European Union, Germany is the country most affected by counterfeits in the toy and clothing sector, while France is the most affected in the cosmetics sector.
