Canada has initiated its Research Talent Initiative, which comprises new streams aimed at attracting and retaining top international researchers from overseas.

Through three new Canada Impact+ streams, the federal government intends to welcome over 1,000 researchers and allocate up to $1.7 billion CAD over the next ten years to facilitate their work and settlement in Canada.

The streams consist of:
• Canada Impact+ Research Chairs for globally recognized researchers
• Canada Impact+ Emerging Leaders for international early-career researchers
• Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards for doctoral candidates and postdoctoral fellows

These initiatives will concentrate on priority sectors such as AI and advanced technologies, health and biotechnology, clean technology, climate and Arctic research, food and water security, democratic resilience, advanced manufacturing, and defence-related technologies, with researchers typically entering through established study permit and work permit pathways.
