You checked the company. No litigation. Deal looks clean.
But did you check the promoter? The subsidiary in another state? The ED proceeding in Rajasthan?

India has 55 million pending cases across courts and regulators that don't talk to each other. A litigation check is only as good as the jurisdictions it covers. LIBIL covers them all.

46 million pending cases. Litigation records spread across dozens of courts and regulators. A deal closing in 30 days. This is the due diligence reality for Indian corporates. Agentic AI is changing what's possible. But only if it's built on data you can trust.

We wrote about it.

LQ LAW FLASH | 29th Mar 2026 ⚖️

Parliament passed the Transgender Rights Amendment Bill 2026, introducing mandatory medical board approvals for identity certificates, a move legal experts warn may undercut the right to self-perceived gender identity. Courts pushed back against systemic misuse: the Bombay HC quashed a DRT order shielding defaulters who weaponize insolvency law post-auction, and flagged procedural violations in an MTP inquiry panel. SEBI tightened market governance norms while expanding the auditor pool for IAs and RAs, and RBI penalized cooperative banks for compliance lapses even as it deployed MuleHunter.AI across 26 banks to combat mule accounts. With Indian corporates facing 2,000+ weekly cyberattacks and cross-border risk specialists expanding their India footprint, the legal-tech convergence in banking compliance is no longer optional, it's survival.

India made a deliberate choice: no sweeping AI Act. Instead, a mosaic.

The DPDP Act. The IT Amendment Rules 2026. The BNS. The Consumer Protection Act. Voluntary governance guidelines. A private member's bill that hasn't passed yet.

Each piece applies to AI differently. Together, they create real compliance obligations; right now.
Our latest explainer breaks down what the mosaic means for legal professionals in practice, and what to watch before the year is out.

At Legitquest, we build AI tools grounded in verified legal data because in a landscape this complex, the source matters as much as the answer.

There is no AI Act in India. There is no sweeping, EU-style regulation that tells you exactly what is permitted, what is prohibited, and what will cost you if you get it wrong.

A petition cited "Mercy vs Mankind."

No such judgment exists.

The Supreme Court of India has now formally noticed the Attorney General, Solicitor General, and Bar Council flagging AI-generated fake precedents as a systemic threat to judicial decision-making.

CJI Surya Kant used one word to describe the trend: ALARMING.

Here's the hard truth: AI doesn't know what it doesn't know. It fills gaps, sounds confident and in a courtroom, that confidence can cost a client everything. The legal profession doesn't need less AI. It needs better AI, trained on verified sources, built for the courtroom; not borrowed from a chatbot.

That's what we do at Legitquest.

LQ LAW FLASH | 22nd Mar 2026 ⚖️

An HDFC Bank chairman's ethics-driven exit rattled markets and drew RBI's attention, while courts delivered landmark rulings on the right to die with dignity and dismissed a challenge to the IPL's name. OpenAI found itself in legal crosshairs over ChatGPT's role in alleged unlicensed legal counsel, a case with far-reaching implications for AI governance. On the compliance front, India's new Income Tax Rules, 2026 set the stage for a transformed tax landscape, and the ED's asset attachment in a ₹35-crore bank fraud signals continued enforcement rigour.

60 AI-generated court filings. One hallucinated case citation. A $10 million lawsuit.

OpenAI is being sued for practicing law without a license and this case will define the accountability rules for every AI legal tool that comes after it.

The legal industry has always known one thing: advice without responsibility is dangerous. That's why lawyers are licensed. That's why they get sued.

The technology industry is learning that lesson now in federal court.

At Legitquest, our tools are built to inform, never to advise or replace qualified legal judgment. In law, the difference between the two isn't a technicality. It's a liability.

The legal industry just got its most clarifying case study in AI governance yet and it didn’t come from a courtroom drama or a law review article. It came from a chatbot telling a woman her attorney was misleading her.

LQ LAW FLASH | 15 Mar 2026 ⚖️

The Iran conflict casts a long shadow over India's Goldilocks economy, the Bombay High Court draws a firm line on arbitrary GST cash seizures, and the Delhi excise policy saga takes another turn as Kejriwal seeks a bench transfer. The CJI's push for ethical AI in legal research sets the tone for a judiciary navigating rapid technological change, while RBI caps bank dividends and SEBI closes the book on 29 legacy venture capital fund violations. NSE's IPO machine is in full motion with a record 20 merchant bankers on board, even as the ED continues attaching assets in fraud cases across the country.
