Portable Appliance Testing (also known as PAT Testing) is a way of checking your electrical equipment to see if it is SAFE. Although not specifically a legal requirement, Portable Appliance Testing is a very necessary part of your organisation's Health and Safety regime. It doesn't matter whether you're a sole trader or a large multi-national corporation; if you use electrical equipment in your business, then you have a responsibility to make sure it is safe.

We came across this little beauty during a PAT test.

The cable had clearly seen better days — but someone had decided that a generous helping of Sellotape was all it needed to keep going! 📦

Unfortunately, Sellotape might be great for wrapping presents, but it’s not a suitable repair for damaged electrical cables. 😬

This is exactly why PAT Testing can be so important. It can identify damaged equipment that might otherwise continue to be used until something goes wrong.

👉 If your electrical equipment is looking more “DIY repair” than “safe to use”, it’s time to get it checked!

While the rest of us are desperately searching for shade, spare fans and anything cold enough to drink… spare a thought for all the PAT Testers out there crawling around under desks, squeezing behind cupboards and testing equipment in what feels like a sauna! 🥵😂

To all the PAT Testers, electricians, engineers and other hardworking people out there battling the heat today — stay hydrated, take plenty of breaks and keep cool! 💦😎

And remember… there’s no such thing as a cool place to test equipment when you’re crawling under a desk in 30°C! 😂
