The word “trust” sounds complicated… but often it’s simply a way to protect what matters most.

A Trust is a legal arrangement designed to help you safeguard your assets and ensure they’re passed on in the way you intend, with greater control and often greater protection.

A Trust may help:
☑️ protect assets for children until they’re ready to inherit
☑️ support vulnerable or dependent loved ones long-term
☑️ reduce the risk of family disputes
☑️ preserve wealth across generations
☑️ offer added protection for your home and other key assets

Not everyone needs a Trust, but for many families, it can be an incredibly valuable part of a wider estate plan.

If you have children under 18, your Will does more than divide your assets.

It lets you:
✔ appoint guardians
✔ protect their inheritance
✔ make your wishes clear

Without one, important decisions may be left to the courts.

That’s a risk most parents don’t realise they’re taking.

Many people assume their spouse or children will automatically inherit everything… but that isn’t always the case.

If you die without a valid Will, the law decides who inherits your estate, not you.

That could mean:
❌ delays
❌ family disputes
❌ loved ones receiving less than you intended

Writing a Will gives you control and peace of mind.

Many people think a Lasting Power of Attorney is only for later in life.

But LPAs aren’t about age, they’re about being prepared.

If illness or an accident meant you couldn’t make decisions yourself, would the right people have the legal authority to help?

If you were suddenly unable to make decisions for yourself, who could step in to help with:
• your finances
• your bills and mortgage
• business decisions
• medical care and treatment choices

Putting an LPA in place early is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and your family from unnecessary stress later on.

We regularly see families fall out after someone passes away, even close families.

And usually?
It starts with uncertainty.

Who was supposed to inherit what?
Who was chosen to manage affairs?
What were Mum or Dad’s wishes?

Clear planning prevents confusion.

One conversation today can save years of stress later.

A surprising number of people still think Wills are only for the wealthy.

The reality?

If you own a home, have children, run a business, or simply want your wishes respected, you need a Will.

Without one:

The law decides who inherits
Family disputes become more likely
Delays and extra costs can follow

Estate planning isn’t about expecting the worst.
It’s about protecting the people you love.

Writing a will can seem simple at first, especially with so many DIY options available. But it’s often the small details that cause the biggest issues later on. Unclear wording, missing clauses, or changes in personal circumstances can lead to delays, confusion, or outcomes you never intended for your family. ❌

Having your will properly prepared helps ensure your wishes are clear, legally sound, and far easier for your loved ones to deal with when the time comes.

At GP Norgate Estate Planning, I help take the uncertainty out of will writing so you can feel confident everything is in order.

Think your Lasting Power of Attorney is all sorted? It’s worth double-checking…

Even when people believe they have an LPA in place, small mistakes can cause delays, complications, or even rejection.

According to the Office of the Public Guardian, these are some of the most common issues:

1️⃣ Using the wrong or out-of-date forms
2️⃣ Forgetting or mixing up names
3️⃣ Being unclear about life-sustaining treatment
4️⃣ Including contradictory instructions
5️⃣ Signing the form in the wrong order or place
6️⃣ Making amendments with pencil or correction fluid
7️⃣ Missing out sections or answers
8️⃣ Leaving out pages
9️⃣ Missing signatures or key details
🔟 Adding unlawful or compulsory instructions

These mistakes are more common than you might think, and they can prevent your LPA from being registered or used when it’s needed most.

If you’ve already completed your LPA, it’s worth reviewing it carefully. If you’re yet to put one in place, getting it right from the start can save a lot of stress later on.

If you have any concerns about your paperwork or aren’t sure how to proceed, I’m always happy to help.
