A wonderful evening was had yesterday at The Surrey Business Awards! Hartley Law was nominated for Best Customer Service, and if you know our work, you’ll know why this category is especially important to us.
Since the very start, Hartley Law has been built around customer experience, placing our clients at the heart of not only everything we do, but how we shape the road ahead as we progress and grow as a firm.

We are incredibly proud to have made it to the final 6. Out of hundreds of applicants and nominees, being recognised as one of the few companies that qualify for this recognition means the world to us, confirming that what we do and how we do it, does not go unnoticed.

As always, a big thank you to everyone, and a huge well done to the winners.

At Hartley Law, we believe that constant education in fields that truly matter is not only key to our growth, but also to serving our clients with the highest standard of care.

This weekend Karen attended one of the leading global conferences on trauma at the prestigious University of Oxford and hosted by Masters Events. Bringing together some of the most respected voices in the field, including Bessel van der Kolk, Dan Siegel, Ruth Cohn, David Nutt, Tara Swart, Richard Schwartz, and Matthias Barker.
Delving into key topics, karen’s learnings from the importance of trauma-informed systems to the role of emotional development and interdisciplinary collaboration, will help shape how we continue to evolve as a firm.

The event showcased the latest research, practices, and therapies around trauma, while also recognising the deeply intertwined inter-generational, cultural, and spiritual dimensions of healing. It was a reminder of how essential collaboration and learning across disciplines is exactly how we need to tackle the wider societal and global challenges we face.

Some of Karen’s key takeaways were:
➡️ I couldn’t help but reflect on how, despite the urgent need for the family law system to become trauma-informed when dealing with domestic abuse, there were no other legal professionals or government employees I met in attendance. Sadly, this reflects what many clients already experience, and this gap is one we urgently need to address.

➡️ The central role of childhood, emotional development, and the brain in shaping our adult lives. In relationships, in employment, in leadership and beyond.

➡️ How many front-line therapists and psychologists became inspired when conventional methods weren’t working, and by pushing boundaries and experimenting, they became the pioneers and global experts we now learn from.

➡️ The necessity of blending disciplines, from neuroscience to spirituality, culture to mathematics, to truly understand trauma, healing, and intergenerational cycles.

➡️ The reminder that healing begins with the self. With love, courage, and authenticity. ❤️‍🩹💪

Hartley Law is delighted to have advised on the recent deal exceeding £24m, whereby four councils, South Oxfordshire District Council, Vale of White Horse District Council, Havant Borough Council and Hart Council have extended their contract for services with Capita, outsourcing a number of key contracts.

Following a successful first 9-year term of the contract, Capita will continue to deliver key services to the councils, including Revenues & Benefits and Local Land Charges and will continue to do so until 2028.

Claire Hughes, Client Relationship Director representing the authorities on the Capita contract said: “Hartley Law, and Karenjit in particular, have been excellent to work with on the Capita contract. Their help in securing the extension has been invaluable and I am grateful to Karenjit for all the work she has done to make this process so smooth. I am looking forward to continuing to work with Hartley Law over the next 3 years.”

Hartley Law have played a key part in advising the councils on this extension, with the value of the contract totalling £24,736,269.

We are delighted to see our work come to life such as on this occasion, speaking to the depth of professional expertise of our founder and CEO, Karenjit.

Thank you to the brilliant team at Capita, Paul Loader and Emma Hall, and the fantastic Council colleagues, Andrew Down, Anthony Sheldon, Ashley Grist, nick bennett and Pat Connell - it has been great to work closely and watch this project come to life.

The Hartley Law team recently spent the day at the Farnborough Sixth Form College, exhibiting and speaking as part of the annual “Moving On Day” held by the college, designed to inspire and inform students of the different career options and opportunities available to them.

We had a brilliant day chatting with attendees about the pathways into and beyond law, as well as hearing from Karen, who presented two sessions, sharing her journey into law, as well as what the typical day of a solicitor looks like, as students eagerly tuned in to listen and learn.

Hartley Law provides work experience opportunities to many of The Farnborough Sixth Form College students, along with many others, and are proud to be playing a small part in inspiring the legal minds of the future - as we so often say, it’s about creating a legacy business, and making lasting change. We hope to be able to do that through providing learning and development opportunities to the students of today; the lawyers of tomorrow.

This week, we attended The Lawyer awards, proudly representing the firm as a finalist for the Sustainability Initiative award. A brilliant evening was had, but sadly, we didn’t walk away with an award this time.

Rather than being disheartened, as always, we take this as an opportunity to both celebrate and learn from those who won, and understand what we can be doing more of to make a bigger impact through the work we are doing. That’s what it’s all about.

As a small business, to be included in the shortlist alongside industry leaders demonstrates that our work really is moving the needle. It can be hard to compete with large teams, big budgets, and widespread recognition. But here we are, at the same table, part of the conversation, and part of the change. It’s our joint responsibility to push in the right direction, whether for the planet, society or our communities, it is a collective effort.
To have made the shortlist for such a highly-regarded award signals to us that our purpose is well-placed and continues to fuel our passion.

This is what we stand for, learning, continuous improvement, and real impact. We are excited to continue this journey.

Thank you to The Lawyer for hosting a fantastic event, we hope to see you next time.

The You’ll Never Run Alone crew have completed their 200+ mile run in aid of Victoria´s Promise and St. Michael’s Hospice in Baskingstoke.

After sadly losing their dear friend Debbie to cancer last year, Debbie’s husband and some of their close friends decided to take on the monumental run this year, starting in Basingstoke and covering over 200 miles until reaching Liverpool, all with the aim of raising funds for the two charities that supported Debbie during her battle with the disease.

With close ties to Victoria’s Promise, the Hartley Law team have been rooting for Mark Dolby and the crew. Mark along with Karenjit, CEO of Hartley Law, are both trustees for Victoria’s Promise and have been supporting the charity in their fundraising efforts.

Victoria’s Promise is a local charity that provides young women with cancer, and their families, with life-changing emotional, practical, and community support. With the mission ensuring no young woman or family faces cancer alone, the charity is creating a legacy of empowerment, connection, and hope for generations.

If you would like to donate to the charity, please follow the link in our bio. Anything you are able to contribute can make a huge difference to those who need it most.

Well done Mark and the YNRA gang on their monumental achievement. Now it’s time to rest those legs!
