Social Care Funding Matters is back for 2026.

Throughout June, the Court of Protection and Community Care Law team at Martin Searle Solicitors is running our annual Social Care Funding Matters campaign — offering free legal advice to families, professionals, and those navigating the complexities of social care funding.

The statistics speak for themselves:
- 259,000 adults in England are currently waiting for their care package to start
- Fewer than half of older adults with care needs are receiving any support
- Local Authorities spend £32 billion per year on social care, yet demand continues to outpace provision

With Baroness Casey's commission underway and fundamental reform on the horizon, understanding your rights under the Care Act has never been more important.

This June, we are offering:
✅ Free 30-minute telephone advice sessions every Tuesday & Thursday, 3.30–5.30pm
✅ A free webinar on 'Double Recovery: PI Awards and Periodical Payments' on 25 June, 12–1pm
✅ Free factsheets, case studies and FAQs through our website

Whether you are supporting a family member or advising clients as an accountant, financial adviser, or solicitor, our team is here to help.

Pregnancy and maternity discrimination is one of the most misunderstood areas of employment law, and the consequences of getting it wrong can be significant.

Our FAQs page gives employers clear, expert-led answers from our Employment Law team to the questions that matter most:

✅ Do staff need to inform their employer that they are pregnant?
✅ Can you ask an employee if they are pregnant?
✅ What are the potential consequences for UK employers found guilty of pregnancy discrimination?

Maternity and pregnancy discrimination is rarely driven by malicious intent. More often, it's a combination of unconscious bias, ignorance of the law, and a management culture that has never examined its own assumptions about pregnant women and working mothers.

🚨 74,000 women a year are estimated to be fired or made redundant while pregnant or on maternity leave. That's roughly a 37% increase since 2016.

Despite the introduction of greater legal protections, pregnancy and maternity discrimination continues to rise year on year. This is a disturbing trend that demands attention.

Throughout March, we are proud to launch our hashtag campaign, to provide clear, accessible guidance on pregnancy and maternity law for both employers and employees.

Follow us to help make sense of the law for both employers and employees – this includes free factsheets, a legal helpline, and a free online seminar: https://www.ms-solicitors.co.uk/mind-the-bump/

Sexual harassment remains a troubling reality in many workplaces. Employment Tribunal cases involving sexual harassment increased by nearly 50% between 2019 and 2023. Yet, countless incidents go unreported – what we see is only the tip of the iceberg.

This January, our campaign offers free resources and practical support for both employees and employers, helping organisations prevent harassment and individuals better understand their rights.
