Good luck Richard! 🚴‍♂️

Everyone at Cognitive Law is wishing our Later Life Solicitor Richard Bates and the rest of the Starr Trust cycling team the very best of luck as they take on their coast-to-coast challenge.

Richard will be cycling across Scotland for The Starr Trust, a wonderful Sussex charity that helps young people overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

We have supported The Starr Trust for many years, and with Richard also being a Trustee, this is a cause that means a lot to us as a firm.

We hope the weather is kind, the hills are manageable, and the team has plenty of snacks to keep them going!

If you would like to give Richard a little boost before he sets off, donations can be made here:

September First Friday Lunch 🤩

Another fantastic First Friday Lunch last week at The Coal Shed in Brighton. Thank you to all who joined us at another sold out event.

This month we were joined by Stuart Palma and Hannah Seltzer from Southern Hospice Group who shared an informative and interesting insight into the hospices in the group and how we in the business community can get involved through sharing their message, creating partnership opportunities as well as fundraising.

A brilliant lunch!

Look out for next month's invite coming out this week.

It was a privilege to sponsor a race at Brighton Racecourse and be part of such a fantastic day.

Consultant Solicitor Karen Blakesley was delighted to attend the fixture and had the honour of presenting the winner's trophy in the Parade Ring.

We always enjoy supporting events that bring people together and are proud of our ongoing relationship with Brighton Racecourse. We look forward to working with them again in the future and to many more successful race days ahead.

The final week of the school holidays always seems to arrive quickly - almost as quickly as a deadline in a lawyer’s diary 😂.

The uniforms come back out. The diary starts filling up again. The normal routine slowly creeps back in.

And for some lawyers, the summer may have brought a familiar thought:

“There must be a better way to make work fit around life.”

That does not mean stepping back from your career or being less ambitious or doing less for your clients.

It might simply mean working differently.

At Cognitive Law, consultancy gives experienced lawyers the freedom to shape their own working lives, while still having the support, systems and community of a well-run firm behind them.

- You can work independently, without being on your own.
- You can build your practice, without being held back by traditional structures.

And you can have a career that works for you, not just around everyone else.

If this summer has made you think about what you want next, consultancy could be worth exploring. Take a look at what consultancy looks like at Cognitive Law - https://bit.ly/3JXT1EM

How often should you review your Will?

Making a Will is one of those important jobs that can bring real peace of mind. Once it has been signed, however, it is easy to put it away somewhere safe and assume it will never need to be looked at again.

The trouble is that life rarely stands still.

Relationships change, families grow, finances move on and the people you originally chose to deal with your estate may no longer be the right choice.

So, how often should you review it? Later Life Solicitor Alison Edwards explains here.

We are beyond excited and extremely proud to share that Cognitive Law is now B Corp Certified 🎊

For us, this is more than a certification. It reflects the kind of firm we have been building for many years: a different kind of law firm, where purpose and profit can work together.

From the way we support our clients, to the flexibility we offer our consultant lawyers, to the local suppliers, referrers, charities and community groups we work with, this achievement means so much to us.

We are especially proud of the community focus that runs through Cognitive Law, including our First Friday Lunch Club, our charity partnerships and the everyday efforts across the firm to do business in a thoughtful and responsible way.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Cognitive Law along the way. We are so delighted to be sharing this news with you.

There are lots of reasons lawyers start looking at consultancy 👀

- For some, it is flexibility.
- For some, it is autonomy.
- For some, it is the chance to earn more from the work they are already doing.
- For many, it is all of the above.

But the firm you choose still matters.

As one of our consultant solicitor's said:

“I personally wanted a firm that was friendly and supportive. The generous fee share was also definitely something that made me decide to join!”

That really sums up what many lawyers are looking for.

- A firm that gives you the freedom to work independently, but still feels approachable, supportive and fair.
- A firm where you are rewarded properly for your work.
- And a firm where you can build your practice without losing the feeling of being part of a team.

That is what we are working hard to offer at Cognitive Law. Would you like to join us too? Find out how here - https://bit.ly/3JXT1EM
