If you didn’t see our last update and you use an e-scooter. Please update yourself with the latest updates in Mallorca.

The rules around electric scooters have changed significantly over the last few weeks.

Registration and compulsory insurance requirements are already in force, and further national changes will begin on 1 October 2026, including a minimum riding age of 15 and mandatory helmet use.

This means that you will need to ensure you have the following in place if you own an e-scooter in Mallorca.

Aged 15 or over.

Have public liability insurance for each rider.

Wear a helmet at all times.

Wear a high vis vest.

Have your e-scooter registered with DGT.

Display your registration certificate on your e-scooter.

Ensure you ride only in correct and authorised locations. Not public pavements.

Older e-scooters are not automatically excluded, but they must still be registered and insured. Many uncertified models will only be permitted to circulate until 22 January 2027.

It is also important to remember that individual town halls can introduce additional rules covering where e-scooters can be used and parked.

Unsure what applies to you or your scooter?

Would you know what to do after a car accident in Spain?

Most of us hope we will never need it, but there is one important document every driver should know about:

The Parte Amistoso de Accidente, also called the European Accident Statement.

Your insurer should be able to provide you with a blank copy, and it is worth keeping one with your insurance documents or inside your glovebox.

Following a minor accident, use the form to record:

The drivers and vehicles involved

Registration and insurance details

Where and when the accident happened

The damage to each vehicle

A simple diagram showing what happened

Take plenty of clear photographs before the vehicles are moved, where it is safe to do so.

Most importantly, do not sign the form unless you agree that all the information is correct.

If anyone is injured or the situation is unsafe, call 112. If the drivers disagree or the other person will not provide their details, contact the police.

Once completed, send the form to your insurer as soon as possible. In Spain, accidents should generally be reported within seven days unless your policy allows longer.

Calvià Residents - important reminder.

The voluntary period ends 31st August 2026 to pay IBI (property tax), Basura (waste collection), and Road Tax. Payments made after will incur late charges.

If you have already set these up on direct debit (prior to 2026), your payment will already have been taken. You can check this through your bank.

If not, you’ll need to pay at your bank (with your payment letter if you have received one) or you can make these payments at Palmanova SAC - Town Hall offices (by the medical centre). You will need relevant ID and debit/credit card for payment.

Do you need help setting up a direct debit for future payments? Or obtaining your payment slips? We can do this for you.
