5 reasons Canada can order you to leave β and the steps in between that almost nobody shows you. π
Security. Human rights violations. Criminality. Organized crime. Misrepresentation. Those are the grounds. But a reason is not an order.
What actually happens: an officer writes a report β a delegate reviews it, and it can stop there β an admissibility hearing at the Immigration Division β only then is a removal order issued. There are points along that path where you can still act. Most people get help at the last one, which is the dearest.
If you're a permanent resident, read slide 3 carefully. Ordinary criminality under s.36(2) applies to foreign nationals β not to you. Only serious criminality reaches a PR. But a sentence of six months or more takes away your appeal.
And the trap nobody warns you about: a departure order gives you 30 days, but you have to confirm your exit with CBSA. Miss that and it becomes a deportation order by itself β with a permanent bar attached.
π Save this. If a letter has already arrived, get advice before you reply to anything.
