• Have your family responsibilities changed too?
• Would you still choose the same people to act for you?

A Will, Enduring Power of Attorney and Representation Agreement are all part of personal planning, but they do not perform the same job.

A Will generally sets out how assets are to be distributed, appoints an executor and may name guardians for minor children.

An Enduring Power of Attorney authorizes a trusted person to manage legal and financial affairs.

A Representation Agreement appoints someone to make health and personal-care decisions if you cannot.

They are connected, but they are not interchangeable.

Understanding the distinction is a useful first step. The documents that may be appropriate for you will depend on your individual circumstances.

The person named as your executor, attorney or representative may have been the right choice when your document was prepared.

Over time, circumstances can change.

People move. Relationships change. Health, availability and family responsibilities may also be different from when your documents were first signed.

Ask yourself:
• Do I still understand what my documents say?
• Would I choose the same people today?
• Do the people named still know about their role?
• Do these documents still reflect my current life?
