Rock Your Socks for World Down Syndrome Day – March 21! 🧦💙

On March 21, we invite the community to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by “rocking your socks!”

This day is observed annually on the 21st day of the 3rd month to represent the triplication (three copies) of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down syndrome.

To show your support, wear brightly coloured, bold, or mismatched socks. These fun and eye-catching socks help spark conversations about inclusion and celebrate the unique strengths and abilities of people with Down syndrome.

Why mismatched socks? The idea was created by Down Syndrome International to highlight that our differences make the world more vibrant and beautiful. Just like socks, we may not always “match” — and that’s something to celebrate!

World Down Syndrome Day is about raising awareness, promoting inclusion, and amplifying the voices of people with Down syndrome and those who live, learn, and work alongside them. Together, we can help create a community where everyone feels valued, respected, and included.

Today, we take a moment to pay tribute to the unwavering bravery, selfless service, and ultimate sacrifice of all the courageous men and women who have fought for our freedom, defending our nation's values and way of life.

We honour their memory and acknowledge the profound impact their service has had on our country's history.

We pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served and continue to serve our country, from the trenches of World War I to the modern-day conflicts, and remember the families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.

We remember the fallen, the wounded, and the survivors, who have shown us the true meaning of courage, loyalty, and devotion to duty.

We pause to reflect and honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our country, and we recommit ourselves to upholding the principles of peace, justice, and freedom that they fought to protect.
