Alberta’s latest AAIP draws are in 🍁

Between September 24 and October 7, the AAIP issued 476 invitations across four draws:

📌 Rural Renewal Stream: 131 invitations, minimum score 51
📌 Express Entry Priority Sectors (General): 200 invitations, minimum score 64
📌 Alberta Opportunity Stream: 123 invitations, minimum score 54
📌 Express Entry Priority Sectors (Aviation): 22 invitations, minimum score 56

Two firsts for 2026: the first aviation-only draw and the first general priority sector draw.

Alberta has now issued 5,541 nominations, about 84% of its 6,603 for the year.

Remember: an invitation is not a nomination. Processing can take several months.

IRCC’s Application Status Tracker is now live on canada.ca 🇨🇦

If you have your AOR, you can now see each section of your application:

• Eligibility
• Medical exam
• Background verification
• Biometrics

Each one shows Not started, Waiting on you, In progress, or Completed, and it updates daily.

It covers spousal, partner and dependent child sponsorship, Express Entry (CEC, PNP, FSWP, FSTP), study permits, work permits, and visitor visas.

Seeing “Waiting on you”? IRCC needs something from you to keep that section moving.

Category-based Express Entry draws are a great opportunity, but they shouldn’t be your only plan. Being in a category doesn’t guarantee a draw, your CRS score still matters, and some categories get very few invitations. Categories can also change with the labour market, so it’s important to confirm your occupation is still eligible. If your work permit is expiring soon, waiting on one draw can be risky. The smartest approach is to keep multiple options open and stay eligible throughout the process.

Carney says Canada may resume a “controlled increase” in immigration, with the new levels plan due in about a month. But after study permits dropped from 456,690 in 2023 to just 50,370 by September 2025, population growth slowed to about half a percent, and Canada lost 42,000 jobs this August, it’s worth asking what the cuts actually cost us. Received an additional document request for your spousal sponsorship application? Take a breath this doesn’t mean something’s wrong. It’s one of the more common steps in processing. 📋

It usually comes down to one of three things:

1. Something needs clarification
2. A document needs updating (like a police certificate or medical exam)
3. More relationship evidence requested

What matters most is how you respond answer exactly what’s asked, skip the extras, and don’t miss the deadline.

Here’s what to know:
No extra application needed if you qualify Covers short-term licensing, education, or training IRCC is notifying eligible people directly this week

But before you get excited:
1. Only valid until December 31, 2027
2. Your work permit/status must already be valid
3. This is NOT a new pathway to come to Canada it only applies to workers already here
