Returning to work after a catastrophic injury can be an important part of rebuilding independence and routine, but there is no single timeline that works for everyone. Traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, chronic pain, PTSD and severe orthopaedic injuries can affect physical abilities, concentration, memory, endurance and emotional well-being long after an accident.

For some people, returning to work may mean reduced hours, modified duties, workplace accommodations or a gradual return to work plan. Others may need vocational retraining, a different career path or may be unable to return to the workforce. Occupational therapists, vocational rehabilitation specialists and other healthcare professionals can help assess work capacity and develop a plan based on the individual’s recovery and job requirements.

Returning too soon can also create challenges when symptoms such as fatigue, pain, headaches, dizziness or cognitive difficulties are still evolving. Understanding the medical, rehabilitation and financial considerations involved can help injured individuals and their families make informed decisions about what a safe and sustainable return to work may look like.

Two days, three events and many meaningful connections in Sudbury!

Our time in Sudbury began with a Lunch & Learn at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre, followed by an evening of conversation and connection with local healthcare providers at a networking event hosted by Oatley Vigmond at Josie’s Secret Patio.

The next day, we were proud to join the Brain Injury Association Sudbury & District for its 2026 Golf Tournament and support the important work they do within the local brain injury community.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us, shared their knowledge and spent time connecting with our team. We always value the opportunity to strengthen our relationships with the professionals and organizations supporting injured individuals and their families throughout Northern Ontario.

Swipe through for a look at our time in Sudbury, and stay tuned for our full event recap reel!

Motorcycle accidents can cause a wide range of traumatic brain injuries, including concussions, cerebral contusions, hematomas, diffuse axonal injuries and subarachnoid hemorrhages. In some cases, a rider may experience more than one type of brain injury in the same collision.

The effects of a traumatic brain injury are not always immediately apparent. Symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, memory difficulties, confusion, changes in mood or difficulty concentrating may develop in the hours or days following a crash. Even when initial imaging appears normal or there was no loss of consciousness, a brain injury may still have occurred.

For some people, the effects can extend well beyond the initial recovery period, affecting physical abilities, cognitive function, emotional health, work and everyday life. Recognizing the signs of a brain injury and seeking appropriate medical care can be an important part of navigating recovery after a motorcycle accident.

Sharing the road means looking out for those who are most vulnerable.

Pedestrians and cyclists have far less protection when a collision happens, which makes awareness and consideration from everyone on the road especially important. Creating safer roads starts with recognizing that while we all share the same space, we don’t all face the same level of risk.

Lara Fitzgerald-Husek of Oatley Vigmond LLP shares an important reminder about pedestrian and cyclist safety and why a little extra care on the road can make a meaningful difference.

We’re grateful for the kind words our clients share about their experience with Oatley Vigmond. It’s a privilege to support our clients through challenging times and help them move forward with confidence.

Client Review: 5/5 Stars on Google.

“From day one, the entire team was compassionate, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. Lisa, our assigned accident benefits specialist, was incredible. She took a huge weight off my shoulders by ensuring everything with insurance was handled and that we had everything we needed. Karen Vigmond, our assigned lawyer, was equally fantastic. She was always there to answer any questions we had and took the time to explain the status of our claim.”
