More than 25,000 teachers and school staff in NSW public schools now have permanent jobs under the Chris Minns NSW Labor Government.

That matters.

For too long, many people working in our schools were on temporary contracts, even though they had been part of their school community for years.

Permanency gives staff more certainty. It helps schools hold onto experienced people. And it means students are more likely to have familiar, consistent faces in the classroom and around the school.

This is one of those reforms that may not always make headlines, but it makes a real difference in the day-to-day life of a school.

Teacher vacancies are now at a 12-year low, and merged and cancelled classes have halved across NSW since the election.

That is good for staff, good for students, and good for public education.

Health Minister Ryan Park MP came to see whether as Leader of the House I had the numbers.
I did. Just not the ones he meant.

Good news for families ahead of winter.

The Chris Minns NSW Labor Government has expanded access to the free nasal spray flu vaccine so that all NSW children and teenagers aged 2–17 years can now receive it.

A needle-free option can make getting vaccinated much easier for many young people and help more families stay protected this flu season.

Available through participating GPs, pharmacies and Aboriginal Medical Services.

On my visit to outback NSW, it was so good to catch up with Broken Hill Labor branch members over dinner at the The Broken Hill Pub

They are committed, dedicated and hardworking people who care deeply about their community and the Labor movement.

I also had my first encounter with a raw steak served on a hot stone, placed right in front of me to cook at the table.

I did ask whether the Broken Hill Hotel had a kitchen, but I was told I must have led a very sheltered life.

Thank you to our NSW Labor members for the warm welcome, good company and a very memorable dinner.

A year on from the biggest rental reforms in a generation, more than 3,000 renters across NSW have had almost $180,000 returned after being charged fees they should never have been paying in the first place.

That includes illegal background check fees and unfair charges for late rent payments — with some renters getting back thousands of dollars.

At a time when so many people are under pressure, renters deserve a system that is fair, transparent and doesn’t hit them with hidden costs just for trying to keep a roof over their head.

The Chris Minns NSW Labor government is continuing to crack down on unfair rental practices and make renting fairer across NSW.
