The sad reality about life is that the majority of relationships, be it in business, church & politics, have become transactional. People will feign undying loyalty, admiration & adoration to other people simply because they would like to protect & preserve their jobs, privileges, opportunities, perks etc while, in reality, the very same people who are doing all this are essentially fake. They never mean what they say nor say what they mean. They will flatter & hero worship you during the day whilst during the night, they will be busy demonising you, saying & doing the very opposite of what they openly purport to be.
My sojourn in active politics over a period of more than two decades taught me never, ever to trust anyone. The majority of people are mainly driven by their own narrow, selfish interests. They will do anything & everything just to ensure that these selfish interests are secured & protected. Principle hardly matters to the majority of people. What matters is their stomachs. As long as they're eating, they don't give a damn whether or not the person next door is starving. It is very wrong to state that politics is dirty. Politics is not dirty. It is the majority of politicians who make politics look dirty. These are the dishonest, crooked & corrupt politicians who are not guided by principle & ideology. However, not all politicians are crooked & corrupt but believe you me, the majority of them are!
My journey in active politics also showed me that most honorable men & women with integrity, are not interested in pursuing a political career. This is where the main challenge lies. By refraining from participating in active politics, these honorable men & women are actually allowing crooked & corrupt characters to engage in matters of public governance. My point is that people of honour & integrity should actually take an interest in politics & indeed, actively participate therein, otherwise, they will allow crooks, wheeler dealers & charlatans to run the political show whilst they themselves remain seated in the terraces, crying & blaming politicians for everything that's going wrong in our society. But my BIG word of caution to any aspiring politician is that they should know that if they're not at the table, they're definitely on the menu.
Have a great day folks & God bless!
