Amendment Bill No. 3 is the biggest existential threat we face today. Contrary to claims of advancing any developmental agenda, it seeks to advance and protect the continuation of corruption, misgovernance, poor service delivery, rising unemployment, deepening poverty, and the daily hardships our people endure. Fellow citizens this is a decisive moment, let’s stand firm and brace for lawful, decisive action to defend the Constitution and secure the future of Zimbabwe.

Emmanuel Sitima and Takunda Mhuka are behind bars for standing up for the Constitution. Sitima has been denied bail, and Mhuka who was actually assaulted, is the one detained. This is a clear case of a system being used to punish people for speaking out against Amendment Bill No. 3. If this can happen to them, it can happen to anyone. We cannot stay silent, let’s demand their release and

In a society where democratic space is closing, Resistance does not disappear, it shifts and finds new ways to be heard. Here is a clear signal that young people are refusing to be silenced, standing up against Amendment Bill No. 3 despite growing pressure and intimidation.

The denial of bail to Takunda Mhuka is deeply unjust and unacceptable. It reflects a justice system that is failing to uphold fairness, proportionality, and the basic rights of individuals. We cannot normalise this. I call on all who believe in justice to stand in solidarity and demand his release.

Any attempt to amend the Constitution outside its prescribed safeguards is a violation of the people’s sovereignty and must be firmly resisted.

We call on all Zimbabweans to assert their constitutional rights, reject this Bill, and stand in active defence of the Constitution. This is a moment for collective, decisive action. The people must rise, and the Constitution must be defended.

The Constitution Defenders Forum is a civic platform committed to defending Zimbabwe’s Constitution, promoting constitutionalism, and strengthening democratic accountability.

Our immediate task is to defend the Constitution against attempts to amend it in order to extend presidential term limits. The chaotic, flawed, and unprocedural public hearings have exposed a deliberate process that undermines constitutional standards and citizen participation.

This moment calls for urgency. We must conscientize citizens, mobilize for coordinated civic action, and prepare for a possible referendum.

The Constitution is precisely what guarantees and protects freedom of speech. Without defending it, that freedom becomes even more vulnerable. The task, therefore, is not to dismiss the Constitution, but to actively defend, uphold and safeguard it so that the rights it enshrines, especially freedom of expression remain meaningful in practice.

Bail granted, but clearly standing for the Constitution comes at a cost. Still, moments like these don’t weaken resolve, they sharpen it. The commitment to defend what is right remains unchanged.

Last night, the walls of Harare CBD spoke.

When voices are suppressed, the streets answer. When justice is delayed, resistance finds its way onto every surface they cannot control.

The demand is clear:

To all who believe in justice and constitutional democracy, this is a moment to stand together.

Tomorrow Monday 23 March 2026 at 08:30AM, let’s gather at Mutare Magistrates Court in solidarity with Tendai Biti and Morgan Ncube, affirming that the defence of our Constitution is a shared responsibility.

Let’s send a clear statement that we will not retreat when the rule of law is at stake.

I strongly condemn the arrest and continued detention of the Constitution Defenders Forum Convener Tendai Biti and Director of Programs Morgan Ncube. These actions are unjust, unwarranted, and represent a clear attempt to silence legitimate civic engagement.

We demand their immediate and unconditional release. No amount of intimidation or arrest will deter us from defending the Constitution and standing up for democratic principles.
