🔵⚪️Did you know Section 75(1b) of Zimbabwe’s Constitution reads:

"1. Every citizen and permanent resident of Zimbabwe has a right to-
b. further education, which the State, through reasonable legislative and other measures, must make progressively available and accessible."

The state must not sleep on it's constitutional obligation to make further education progressively available and accessible. We call for more legislation from the government and it's arms around the realization of Section 75 in letter and spirit.

Last week represented by our National Spokesperson we took part in the youth roundtable on the 10% local authority youth quota, voter registration and youth participation. The platform gave space to rethink the meaning of democracy and share practical ideas on strengthening youth participation in Zimbabwe. We stressed the need for transparent and competitive selection of young people and made the case against using the quota as a tool for patronage.

Bulawayo province roars with the agenda ⚪️🔵

As we gear into the second phase of guided by the 4A framework we demand deliberate governance and subsidisation of higher education to secure equitable access for all.

In our engagements in the Bulawayo province students and stakeholdrs raised several concerns in line with the phase and highlighted the need for adequate investment to improve not only physical infrastructure but also digital infrastructure.

As we direct much attention to the phase, we will continue pushing matters as well and continue engaging all stakeholders until education is transformed.

We are currently mobilising students and stakeholders across Midlands Province in defence of the right to further learning, grounded in the transformation of education through the 4A Framework.

This demands, first, availability, state-of-the-art infrastructure and resources without which meaningful learning cannot occur.

It demands, second, accessibility, deliberate governance and subsidisation of higher education to secure equitable access for all.

It demands, third, acceptability, curricula, pedagogy, and assessment that are relevant and responsive to the realities of Midlands.

And it demands, finally, adaptability, an education system conscious of its role in society, capable of evolving in step with changing social norms.

🔵 From Women’s University in Africa to the University of Zimbabwe, the agenda continues to gather momentum.

The President, Liberty Hamauswa, together with student leaders at the University of Zimbabwe, galvanised students to rally behind the strategic mission of transforming higher education in Zimbabwe.

It is fundamentally evident that the state of our education system has been deteriorating over the years. There remains a worrying lack of accountability among those entrusted with the responsibility of governing the sector, while little urgency has been demonstrated in modernising educational infrastructure, embracing technology, and ensuring decent remuneration and working conditions for lecturers.

This is a national challenge that demands a broad-based and organised student movement. Students must come together, organise collectively, and demand a new, progressive approach to higher education, one that places accessibility, quality, dignity and investment at the centre of Zimbabwe’s education system.

We also, warmly welcome all new and returning students. Join ZINASU. Mobilise. Organise. Advance.
