On 21 November 2025, we stand with South Africa in the National Shutdown Against GBV and Femicide, a movement of collective action calling for safety, justice, and accountability.
Our firm will observe a one-hour pause from 12:00–13:00 as a symbolic moment of reflection and solidarity.

But beyond that day, we are committed to being part of the long-term solution in ensuring that justice is accessible to those who need it most. As part of our commitment and in support for the upcoming 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, we will be offering free 30 minutes legal consultations to individuals affected by GBV including seeking Protection Orders under the Domestic Violence Act & under the Protection from Harassment Act and any guidance on urgent safety concerns and reporting procedures.

Violence has no place in our society.

We remain committed to justice, safety, and dignity for all.

Our attorneys and candidate attorneys recently watched a South Gauteng High Court opposed summary judgment application online from our office in Westville — and it is remarkable to see how far our justice system has come.

Virtual court hearings are not just convenient; they are a smart, progressive step forward for the legal profession. By enabling participation from virtually anywhere with an internet connection, they expand access to justice. It is also significant that respect for the Court and its traditions remains unwavering, even in virtual settings.

However, there are challenges such as unstable connections and tech glitches that can disrupt proceedings. But the advantages of a virtual court hearing eliminate travel time and waiting hours, making legal services more affordable and efficient for clients.

In addition, it also allows candidate attorneys or even paralegals to observe opposed motions in real time — an invaluable learning experience without the added expense of going to court and limiting downtime.

Technology is reshaping how we practise law: efficient, accessible, and future-focused that can uphold the principles of fairness, due process, and equal access in a digital age.

It is exciting to be part of this transformation.

Legal Update: Levy Claims and Prescription Periods-: Time Is Ticking ⏳

A recent legal analysis of relevant case law confirms that levy claims by Homeowners' Associations (HOA’s) and Bodies Corporate prescribe after 3 years under section 11(d) of the Prescription Act. That means that HOA’s and Bodies Corporate including a Share Block is owed levies, you must act fast—unless the debtor is a trustee or director.

Even buyers at sales in ex*****on could be liable for all arrear levies, regardless of age, thanks to embargo clauses such as section 15B(3)(a)(i)(aa) of the Sectional Titles Act and title deeds.

HOAs, Bodies Corporate and Share Blocks must act promptly to recover outstanding levies or risk losing their claims due to prescription.

This case law has serious implications for any community scheme, property managers/managing agent, trustees, directors, shareholders, and buyers alike.
