DEEDS OFFICE, CAPE TOWN – INTERVENTION PLAN

In terms of the Court Order granted on 19 June 2020 the court instructed the Minister and Registrar of Deeds to publish and implement a rapid and effective intervention plan aimed at addressing the transaction backlog in the Deeds Office within 5 days of the order.

The following intervention plan will be implemented in order to address the backlog at the Deeds Office, Cape Town:

1. An alternative office, namely Van der Ster Building at 90 Rhodes Avenue, Mowbray has been identified with the specific purpose to accommodate some of the examiners to perform their official duties, while the remainder of examiners will be examining transactions at the Deeds Office at 90 Plein Street, Cape Town.

2. This intervention is meant to ensure 100 % of the examination by the employees examining deeds, subject to departmental policies and the regulations under the National Disaster Management Act.

3. The effective date for the implementation of the alternative measures, set out in 1 and 2 above, is 13 July 2020.

Hopefully these measures will speed up registrations currently in the Deeds Office and eliminate the backlog.

We will monitor the progress and keep you advised.
