Hofmeyr Hofmeyr Attorneys is a boutique law firm that specialises in property-related administrative-and constitutional law.

Our focus is on land use planning-, environmental-, and water law, and our clients range from small to large private and public players. Carel Hofmeyr has been specialising in the field of land use - and property related administrative law since his admission as an attorney in 2001. That remains his field of expertise with specific focus on town planning-, environmental-, water- and heritage law.

He has extensive experience in various spheres of land use- and development industries as he has, apart from practicing as a specialist attorney, acted as the legal advisor for the South African Heritage Resources Agency and as the in-house legal advisor for a commercial property development company. He has served for several years on the board of a prominent industry body that was formed to promote development in the Western Cape through, amongst other things, liaison with the various spheres of government, industry bodies and other stakeholders in the development industry. His exposure to all sectors of the industries that he works in, allows him to provide clients with informed advice backed up by extensive practical experience. Carel’s clients include large and small property developers, commercial- and family-run farming enterprises, landowners, municipalities, homeowners’ associations and a wide range of persons that are involved in-and affected by, the laws that regulate amongst others the property development-, agricultural- and energy industries. Carel holds BA-and LLB degrees from the University of Stellenbosch, an LLM from the Humboldt University in Berlin and an LLM (Public Law) from the University of Cape Town. He is an admitted attorney, conveyancer and notary public.

Legal Secretary/Paralegal/Junior Attorney - Three-Month Contract Opportunity

A busy legal practice in Somerset West, Hofmeyr Attorneys, is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary, Paralegal or Junior Attorney with a strong background in litigation to join our team on a three-month contract, starting 1 July 2025.

Key Responsibilities:
· Proven hands-on experience in Microsoft Word and Excel
· A solid understanding of High Court processes; Maintain court bundles
· Fluency in both English and Afrikaans
· Calendar & Schedule Management: Manage and maintain calendars, schedule meetings and appointments, ensuring deadlines are met
· Correspondence and Communication: Handle incoming and outgoing communication and maintain case files and documentation by maintaining the database
· Manage timesheets and generate invoices
· Assist with the preparation of legal documents and correspondence with accuracy and professionalism
· Manage the switchboard
· Support attorney with various administrative tasks
· Onboard new clients via the F**A process and continue the updating of the F**A database
· Ability to work independently, under pressure, and with attention to detail, professional demeanour and a strong work ethic

We require the services of an attorney with more than 5 years post qualification experience with an interest in environmental-, land use- and property law. The role will involve drafting and advice, liaison with clients, other attorneys, counsel and regulatory bodies, and all aspects of High Court litigation in the aforementioned fields.
